"The nerves were through the roof" - When Clint Bowyer expressed his “unbelievable” feeling of keeping Kyle Busch at bay amid career-first achievement

Clint Bowyer achieved a significant milestone in his NASCAR career by winning the 2018 STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway, marking his first victory at the challenging half-mile track. This win was particularly meaningful for Bowyer, who had not tasted victory since 2012 and was under pressure to validate his position at Stewart-Haas Racing after a winless first year.

Battling against the formidable Kyle Busch, a seasoned champion with over 50 wins, Bowyer described the experience as nerve-wracking yet exhilarating. He expressed his disbelief at successfully keeping Busch at bay during the closing laps, stating:

“To keep Kyle Busch, one of the best in the business, behind you in those closing laps, the nerves were through the roof. It’s unbelievable how it all came true,” said Clint Bowyer via Jayski.

This victory not only quenched his long-standing thirst for a win, but also solidified his reputation in the competitive world of NASCAR.

Following the race, Busch acknowledged Bowyer's superior performance, noting that Bowyer was able to maintain a better track position throughout the race.

Busch, who finished second, praised Bowyer's strategy and execution, stating that Bowyer was able to save his tires effectively, which allowed him to gain an edge. The race featured multiple pit stops and strategic maneuvers, making it crucial for drivers to manage their resources wisely.
