Jimmie Johnson recently touched upon Legacy Motor Club's performance in the Quaker State 400 Available At Walmart race in Atlanta. Despite LMC's underwhelming performances at the Atlanta Motor Speedway race, Johnson praised the drivers and revealed that he was "proud" of them.
Legacy Motor Club, formerly known as Petty GMS Motorsport, fields two full-time Cup Series cars. The #42 Toyota Camry CSE for John Hunter Nemechek, and the #43 for Erik Jones. As usual, they spearheaded LMC's attack at Atlanta, the maiden playoffs race, but to no avail.
Nemechek and Jones failed to make amends as they slumped to two lowly finishes. The #43 driver came home in 26th place, whereas his teammate finished his race in 33rd after starting the race from 33rd and 35th places, respectively.
Even after such an underwhelming show, Johnson, the former NASCAR driver, hailed the duo and his team Legacy Motor Club. Praising them on the micro-blogging site X, the 48-year-old wrote:
"Not our week, but proud of @Erik_Jones, @JHNemechek, and everyone @LEGACYMotorClub for a hard-fought day on all levels. Special thanks to @drinkolipop for their first race with us. Cheers."
Jimmie Johnson co-owns the Legacy Motor Club along with Maury Gallagher, and Richard Petty (who also works as the Brand Ambassador of LMC). Johnson and company rebranded the team in 2023 from Petty GMS Motorsport.
The Legacy Motor Speedway duo finished the regular season in 28th and 33rd places. Erik Jones earned 405 points, whereas John Hunter Nemechek amassed 359 points.
Jimmie Johnson on his Goodwood Revival opportunity: "This is very special"
Jimmie Johnson opened up about his Goodwood Revival experience recently. The NASCAR legend drove in the vintage cars competition in West Sussex alongside Dario Franchitti, where he steered the classic 1960 Aston Martin DB4GT Lightweight.
Speaking about the experience, he said to the media:
"This is very special...This is great. What an honor. This has just been an event that I don’t wanna miss. I have always dreamed of coming here and competing."
Johnson also damaged his car during the race rehearsal, and he thanked his team afterward for fixing it:
"My time in the States was quite busy, and I was finally able to come in '22, and it is such an incredible race. Big thanks and credit to this team. I kind of scratched the back of it yesterday in the rain, and they've been able to fix the car and get it back on track."
The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion started the race from 9th place. However, he quickly rose up the ranks and took the lead until the end.
