Ahead of the Round of 12 Xfinity playoff race, Aric Almirola has been served with a penalty for failing a pre-race inspection. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver will start at the rear of the field at Talladega Superspeedway.
Veteran driver Almirola currently competes part-time in NASCAR's second-tier division, piloting the #19 and #20 Toyota. The 40-year-old has been in the stock car division for almost 15 years and has accumulated 6 Xfinity wins, two of them this season. Almirola's most recent win was at the playoff opener race at Kansas Speedway last weekend. However, his hopes for a better start at Talladega have taken a step back.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), renowned journalist Jeff Gluck reported that the Florida native Almirola's #20 has been penalized for a windshield infraction. His penalty includes dropping to the rear and performing a pass-through penalty after taking the green flag.
"Aric Almirola car in Xfinity Series found with a pre-race inspection windshield infraction. Penalty is drop to the rear and do a pass-through penalty after taking the green," Gluck wrote on X.
This pre-race violation comes under sections 14.4.8.2.E and 14.19.A of the Rule book, which state that the windshield perimeter must remain flush with the body surface for the entire event duration.
Aric Almirola on the brink of a new record in the NASCAR Xfinity Series
With his recent win at the Kansas Lottery 300, Aric Almirola became the 10th Xfinity driver to bag multiple wins in a single season. His previous win was at Martinsville Speedway.
According to a post on X, Almirola is currently tied for the most wins in the Xfinity Series this season. If Almirola or any other multiple race winners this season secure another victory, they will set a new record for the most drivers with multiple wins in a single season.
"Aric Almirola’s victory at Kansas makes him the 10th multi-time winner in the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. This is now tied for the most EVER in an Xfinity Series season," Ryan wrote on X.
Despite being a part-time driver for JGR, Aric Almirola has not only contributed to his own success but has also played a significant role in boosting the team's owner's championship standings. JGR is currently leading in points as the owner in the 2024 Xfinity Series season.
