As NASCAR's schedule for the 2025 season keeps getting delayed, speculations about races being organized internationally are on the rise. A NASCAR insider has revealed his thoughts on the schedule for the upcoming season.
NASCAR's schedule for 2025, initially supposed to be out in the second half of May, remains unreleased. This delay in the release has become a familiar pattern in recent years, with some schedules being released as late as October. While the delays can be a little bothersome, they have also facilitated NASCAR in bringing new locations to the Cup series, like the Inaugural Cup Series race at Iowa and the return to the Indianapolis Oval on Sunday.
The last Cup Series race NASCAR held internationally was in Canada, at the Circuit Trois-Rivières in Quebec, where Lee Petty emerged victorious. NASCAR also held Busch Series (now Xfinity) races in Mexico between 2005 and 2008.
Fox Sports journalist Bob Pockrass recently shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), where NASCAR VP and Chief International Officer, Chad Seigler, shed light on the possibility of NASCAR's international ambitions. The post was captioned:
"At announcement yesterday of Daniel Suarez driving in NASCAR Brazil race, NASCAR VP/Chief International Officer Chad Seigler wouldn't confirm international race on 2025 Cup schedule. It certainly sounds like they are hopeful. (And I don't know when schedule will be released)."
On being asked about the 2025 schedule, Chad Seigler said:
"Still working on the 2025 schedule. I feel like we're getting closer every day to it.[...] I don't think it's an issue of, 'Are we going to eventually get the Cup Series outside of the US?' It's more a matter of when."
"When I talked about Daytona, we had seven different countries in Daytona this year, we just want to learn a little bit more so, no schedule announcement today, but just, we continue to talk to a lot of people," Siegler added.
Speculation surrounding the delayed 2025 NASCAR schedule goes beyond international races. Reports suggest significant changes to the domestic schedule, including potential tweaks to the playoff format.
Reported changes in NASCAR's 2025 schedule in the United States
As NASCAR looks to expand its calendar with international events, there is also speculation about changes to its domestic schedule. Jordan Bianchi, in a story by The Athletic, highlighted several potential adjustments.
Bianchi reported that NASCAR might hold a playoff race at World Wide Technology Raceway or New Hampshire Motor Speedway, potentially replacing the Quaker State 400 in Atlanta. He also suggests the recently removed playoff race in Darlington could return next season.
Additionally, there are reports that the famous Homestead-Miami Speedway might exit the playoffs and become part of the regular season, a decision likely to draw criticism. Bianchi also mentioned that the non-points clash will be held at Bowman Gray Stadium and that the annual summer race at Daytona will revert to hosting the regular-season finale.
