NASCAR has surpassed Formula 1's USA viewership from the last race weekend. The former hosted the season's second playoff battle at Watkins Glen while the latter held its 17th open-wheel race at Baku City Circuit. NASCAR outperformed F1 by more than twice.
Both motorsport disciplines had enthralling race weekends. At Watkins Glen, Chris Buescher bagged his maiden Cup Series win of the season after triumphing a fierce final lap battle against the road course star, Shane van Gisbergen. In F1, McLaren's Oscar Piastri upset Ferrari rival and Azerbaijan polesitter Charles Leclerc after pulling off a bold overtake from the inside line on Lap 20, marking his career's second win.
While USA Network was responsible for broadcasting the 28th Cup race weekend, ESPN held the baton for airing the Formula 1 race in the United States. Motorsport journalist Adam Stern collected viewership data from multiple races during the past weekend, which showed that NASCAR had more viewership than F1.
The races included the Cup Series, NHRA (National Hot Rod Association), F1, NASCAR Xfinity Series, IndyCar, SuperMotocross, and ARCA.
F1 garnered 865,000 views, but NASCAR attracted more than twice at 1.809 million. Below-mentioned is Stern's viewership data across different motorsports (via X).
The next Cup Series showing is at Bristol Motor Speedway, where four out of the 16 drivers will be eliminated.
CW to bring in multi-billion dollar worth advertisers in their NASCAR Xfinity Series broadcasting
The CW is an American commercial broadcast television network that has inked a deal with NASCAR to air the final eight Xfinity Series races. Starting from the Food City 300 at the Bristol Motor Speedway, the broadcaster will be joined by PRN, MRN, and SiriusXM through the final eight races. While CW and SiriusXM will be present in every race, MRN and PRN will shuffle.
Ahead of CW's debut NXS stint, Adam Stern mentioned a couple of corporate giants that will be advertising during the Xfinity races. This includes multi-billion dollar magnates such as Samsung, Toyota, KFC, Snapchat, and Pfizer, to name a few. CW will have 25 advertisers who will display full-screen advertisements or in a side-by-side window.
The Food City 300 will mark the regular season finale of the Xfinity Series. Ryan Sieg is the top driver in the bubble and is 43 points shy of the cutline. Meanwhile, five of the top 6 spots in the Playoff Picture had been etched by Chevrolet drivers. This includes Justin Allgaier in P1, Austin Hill in P2, Shane van Gisbergen in P3, Sam Mayer in P5, and Jesse Love in P6.
Xfinity Series' defending champion Cole Custer last won in the Explore The Pocono Mountains 225 at Pocono Raceway and is placed seventh in the Playoff Picture.
The battle will comprise 159.9 miles of action across 300 laps.
