Legacy Motor Club has made a late-season change to its crew chief lineups, parting ways with Erik Jones' crew chief, Dave Elenz. In the recent silly season shuffle, Jones will now be paired with John Hunter Nemechek's crew chief, Ben Beshore.
Following the Talladega race weekend, the Jimmie Johnson co-owned LMC announced the departure of crew chief Dave Elenz. The #43 crew chief had been paired with Jones since 2022, guiding the team to a crown jewel Southern 500 victory at Darlington Raceway.
In a statement released on Tuesday, October 8, Legacy Motor Club CEO Cal Wells III said:
"LEGACY M.C. and Dave Elenz have parted ways, and the organization would like to thank Dave for his stewardship of the No. 43 over the past three seasons."
The statement confirmed that John Hunter Nemechek's crew chief, Ben Beshore, would now lead Erik Jones' #43 team. Additionally, Legacy Motor Club's recent hire from Hendrick Motorsports, Brian Campe, will serve as the interim crew chief for the #42 team for the remainder of the season. The changes are effective immediately, starting this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
"In continuation of the competition realignment, Ben Beshore will move to the No. 43 team as crew chief for Erik Jones. Newly appointed Technical Director, Brian Campe, will serve as interim crew chief for the No. 42 of John Hunter Nemechek effective this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway," Legacy Motor Club said in a statement.
Jones' new crew chief Beshore has previously worked with Roush Fenway Racing and spent a decade at Joe Gibbs Racing, working with Kyle Busch. Beshore teamed up with John Hunter Nemechek in 2023, before moving to Legacy Motor Club with the driver for the 2024 season.
Jimmie Johnson's team has faced significant teething issues in its first year with Toyota, with Jones sitting 30th in the standings, and Nemechek 34th.
Legacy Motor Club makes key signing from Hendrick Motorsports
Legacy Motor Club recently announced Brian Campe as the new Technical Director, effective immediately. Campe brings two decades of experience in NASCAR and IndyCar, having recently held a similar role at Hendrick Motorsports.
"The addition of a talent like Brian Campe is integral to the success of LEGACY M.C. Brian’s experience with championship teams like Hendrick and Penske will make him a huge asset to LEGACY M.C., and we are eager to see the improvement his leadership will bring to the engineering arm of the CLUB," LMC co-owner Jimmie Johnson said.
Brian Campe began his NASCAR career with DEI Inc. in 2002, before joining Hendrick Motorsports and having a brief stint with JR Motorsports. Campe then began a 12-year stint with Team Penske, switching to IndyCar. He returned to Hendrick Motorsports in 2021 and was involved in Kyle Larson's debut Indy 500 attempt.
Campe will serve as the interim crew chief for John Hunter Nemechek's #42 team for the remainder of the 2024 season.
