Trackhouse Racing President Ty Norris has resigned from the team as the 2024 Cup Series nears its end. The 59-year-old has been with the organization since 2020.
The Athletic motorsports reporter Jordan Bianchi reported the news of Norris' departure via X. The insider also stated that it's rumored to be that the former Michael Waltrip Racing executive could be heading to Kaulig Racing in the near future.
In a post by Brake Hard Blog on Instagram, Kaulig Racing President Chris Rice is expected to stay with the organization, leaving a potential role for Norris still in question.
Norris has been an integral part of Trackhouse Racing since the team expanded to two cars and went full-time Cup Series racing in 2021. The team has won seven races over the last three seasons under the South Carolina native's management.
Ross Chastain scored the first win for the team at the Circuit of the Americas in March 2022. Daniel Suarez followed up with a victory at Sonoma in June. Both wins were the first in both drivers' careers. The duo made their first playoff appearances, too, and their season ended with Chastain making it to the Championship 4 race and finishing runner-up to champion Joey Logano.
Trackhouse Racing earned three wins in 2023, two with Chastain, who claimed trophies at Nashville and the season finale race at Phoenix. The team also earned the win at the Chicago Street Race as Shane Van Gisbergen wheeled the #91 to victory on his first Cup Series start.
Trackhouse Racing has a shot to win the championship with Daniel Suarez
It's been the story of two contrasting seasons for the two full-time Trackhouse Racing drivers. Daniel Suarez clinched a spot in the playoffs in just the second race of the season with a win at Atlanta, taking the checkered flag in a three-wide photo finish over Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch. Suarez has recorded three top-fives and a stage win to go with his sole victory this season.
Ross Chastain missed the playoffs in 2024, the first time he's done so since taking over the #1 car in 2022. The Florida native has yet to find victory lane this season as he sits 17th in the standings. The four-time race winner has tallied five top-fives, a pole, and two stage wins this season.
Suarez is in prime position to advance to the Round of 12 of the NASCAR playoffs for the second time in his career. The Mexican-born driver enters the final race of the Round of 16 at Bristol 36 points above the cut-line to advance. The 32-year-old placed runner-up in the playoff opener at Atlanta and earned a 13th-place finish last Sunday at Watkins Glen.
