The second round of the 2024 NASCAR Truck Series playoff season came to an end with the conclusion of Friday’s Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 200 at Martinsville Speedway, where McAnally-Hilgemann Racing Christian Eckes secured his fourth win of the season.
The result of the final race of Round of 8 set the stage for the title-deciding Championship 4 race. Four drivers in the playoff grid will compete against each other for the prestigious NASCAR Truck Series Championship next week.
The Round of 8 was filled with excitement and drama. Grant Enfinger dominated the first two playoff races with back-to-back wins at the Talladega Superspeedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway.
With no new winner from below the cut-off line at Martinsville Speedway, the last two spots were taken by six-time 2024 winner Corey Heim and Ty Majeski on points after finishing seventh and 11th, respectively, in the elimination race of the Round of 8.
Taylor Gray, Nick Sanchez, Tyler Ankrum, and Rajah Caruth are the drivers who were knocked out of the title contention.
Gray finished P4, but a win would have locked him into the Championship 4. He fell 28 points short of Majeski for the final spot.
Reflecting on the Martinsville win, Eckes said (via NASCAR.com):
“Like I told everybody, I wasn’t going to lose this race — this truck was too good. The 17 (Gray) was hard racing. I feel bad about the 99 (Rhodes). I just got way too loose entering the corner.
