Former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace has commended Kyle Larson for his imminent attempt at a towering racing feat. Larson was in Australia over the weekend as his High Limits Racing International held a three-day event at the Perth Motorplex in Australia. Following his busy weekend, the Hendrick Motorsports driver is set to return to the US for the Tulsa Shootout at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Oklahoma.
After winning the feature event in Perth, Larson is scheduled to compete in all four feature events of the Tulsa Shootout. The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion drives the #5 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. Over his 12-year Cup career, Larson has secured 47 wins across NASCAR's top-tree divisions. Moreover, the California native is famous for his adaptability and prowess in several other formats of racing.
NASCAR veteran Kenny Wallace shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) written by senior NASCAR writer Lee Spencer praising the former Cup Series champion for his dedication as a motorsports athlete. Spencer wrote:
"In less than 4 hours @KyleLarsonRacin will board his first flight en route to the Tulsa Shootout. From Xmas to New Year’s Eve he will log over 20,000 miles to race. His dedication to motorsports is amazing. My final story of 2024, Happy New Year!"
Kenny Wallace then shared the post, praising the #5 driver for his efforts. He wrote:
"Amazingly AWESOME @KyleLarsonRacin 😁"
Kyle Larson clinched a playoff spot in the 2024 Cup Series but fell short of making the Championship 4. Throughout the season, the #5 driver claimed six victories in 35 starts, along with 15 top-five finishes and five pole positions, demonstrating his consistent competitiveness behind the wheel of his Chevrolet.
The Tulsa Shootout has four races scheduled between January 1- 4, 2025.
"Hope I can get through customs quickly" - Kyle Larson discusses travel plans ahead of Tulsa shootout
Former champion Kyle Larson will compete alongside two-time Cup champion Kyle Busch and his son Brexton in the Tulsa Shootout in the first week of January. The HMS driver said he originally planned to leave Australia on January 1, 2025, but his travel plans were changed on account of the birthday of his youngest child, Cooper. Larson told FloRacing,
“So, early morning flight out of here on the 31st, then my flight from Sydney to L.A. lands at 9:10. I have Global Entry, so I hope I can get through customs quickly and get to a 9:34 American Airlines flight to Tulsa. I think I can make it work because those long flights usually get in a little bit early.
“We’ll see. If not, I have another flight that gets (to Tulsa) in time for the races. Yeah, a little bit of a tight schedule but it will all be worth it. We won’t miss out on any racing if there are no flight delays.”
Meanwhile, the Cup Series season opener at Daytona is scheduled for February 16, 2025. Fans can catch the race live on FOX, MRN, and SiriusXM.
