According to latest reports, NASCAR is searching for its fifth premier partner alongside its four existing ones. While Xfinity is the title partner of the second-tier NASCAR Series, they are also a premier partner alongside GEICO, Coca-Cola and Busch Light.
This comes amid the news of a potential name change for the Xfinity Series. However, that is unlikely to occur for at least another year as Xfinity recently renewed their partnership for the 2025 season.
Xfinity has been the title sponsor of the second NASCAR series since 2015. But things get complicated next year as the broadcasting deal moves to The CW 2025 onwards, which is also tied with Comcast and NBC Sports.
Complications can occur if NBC Sports loses its Xfinity Series partnership in 2025. Despite reports of a short one-year deal, NASCAR is now in need of another partner before things get underway next year.
Reporting on this, Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal wrote:
"The major question is whether Comcast will continue being both a premier partner of NASCAR and title sponsor of the Xfinity Series. Sources say it’s possible Xfinity could do a short-term renewal as title sponsor before shifting its relationship in the coming years to just being a premier partner.”
The potential changes are set to occur ahead of NASCAR's new TV deal, which could impact their charter systems significantly. All in all, NASCAR is on a positive trajectory, and it will be interesting to see if they can leverage this and find themselves a new partner.
Cole Custer's win intensified the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season
Cole Custer finally returned to victory lane this season after he held off Justin Allgaier and William Byron at the NASCAR Xfinity Series Race at Pocono Raceway last weekend.
Interestingly, with his win, he delivered manufacturers Ford their first win in the Xfinity Series amid Toyota and Chevrolet's reign. Custer was already leading the championship before this race and the victory helped him extend his lead.
Shane van Gisbergen had already brought some excitement to the Series with his Chicago win earlier. The New Zealander claimed three victories this season, all on road courses. Thanks to these, he closed down the points gap that had opened up above him during oval races.
Custer is currently leading the regular season standings with 716 points after 19 races (a win, eight top-5s). Justin Allgaier is in second place with 665 points (a win, six top-5s), followed by Chandler Smith with 657 points (two wins, seven top-5s) in third.
