Kenny Wallace has cited Kyle Larson's Atlanta crash to outline the speedway's configuration's similarity to Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. The Hendrick Motorsports driver broke loose while exiting Turn 2 on Lap 56 and collected Chase Briscoe in the wreck.

Larson had a good qualifying run and kicked off the Quaker State 400 race from sixth place. However, before the first stage concluded, the #5 Chevy driver lost control and crashed into the outside wall.

He ran in the middle when he broke loose and his front got brutally slammed into the wall. Briscoe was significantly distanced from the HMS driver but got caught in the mishap. Thus, both the driver's playoff opener race was marred by a DNF.

Since the reconfiguration in 2022, AMS has produced similar racing like Daytona and Talladega. While the banking was increased from 24 to 28 degrees, the width was consolidated by 15 feet. As a result, the 1.54-mile oval became the third drafting-style track on NASCAR's roster, and high-speed wrecks became prevalent as drivers steered through turns. Moreover, the high banking on the turns could result in the NextGen cars losing traction if not maneuvered precisely.

Kenny Wallace presented Kyle Larson's wrecked Atlanta outing and highlighted the getting "loose" aspect of superspeedways. He said.

"Atlanta Motor Speedway is the hot ticket now. I mean, look at those finishes, look at the racing, it's kind of wild because it's in between the Daytona and Talladega. But as we witnessed, you got to handle you have to handle. Kyle Larson, the in-car video, Jeff Burton, everybody watched him. He got a little loose, by himself, nobody was on his a**," Wallace said (0:51).
"He got a little loose, and you run it so fast, you got so much G-force that he got loose in the car and Kyle Larson went in the wall...my point is, the track is in between the Daytona and Talladega. You can get loose," the former NASCAR driver added.

The regular season Atlanta race also witnessed a chaotic turnaround of events. The Ambetter Health 400 race saw 10 cautions and threw eight drivers out of the battle. Daniel Suarez won the race by a thin margin of 0.003 seconds over Ryan Blaney.

"That caught me way off guard": Kyle Larson after crashing out at Atlanta and collecting Chase Briscoe

The horrific crash sent both drivers to the infield care center. Kyle Larson felt fine despite the impactful wreck and Chase Briscoe was glad his ankles didn't mess up.

During a post-race talk, Larson was asked whether he felt his #5 Chevy to be oversteering at some point. The HMS driver denied and detailed getting loose at Turn 2 which caught him off guard. He said (via X).

“No, not at all. Never, not once. If anything, I was getting tighter and tighter. So yeah, that caught me way off guard. I wasn’t, never once even in the same corner like loose and then it just started stepping out. I [corrected] and overcorrected, I guess,” Larson said (0:39).

Chase Briscoe also spoke about the wreck and said that he spotted Larson's Chevy a little late, and despite his efforts to steer his #14 Ford to the left, he wasn't "quick enough."

Kyle Larson is placed 10th in the playoff with a 15-point margin over the cutline. On the other hand, Briscoe is down in 16th and is shy of 21 points to the threshold.
