The 19th 2024 Cup Series race witnessed a record quintuple overtime restarts and 15 total cautions at the Ally 400 race at Nashville Superspeedway. Eventually, Team Penske's Joey Logano managed to break through the chaos and secure his maiden win of the season on Sunday.

The two-time Cup Series champion Logano and his #22 team gambled their way through the five overtime restarts amidst late-race wrecks and managed the fuel mileage. The race was extended to 31 laps from the scheduled 300-lap event on the 1.33-mile oval track. While Logano's fellow Cup Series drivers faced fuel shortages in the final moments of the race, the #22 Ford driver turned 110 laps on his last refill. Thus, this race ended Logano's 49-race winning drought and set a record for the most overtimes in NASCAR Cup Series history.

Here's what NASCAR posted on their official account on X (formerly Twitter):

"A new record has been added to the history books."

However, fans of the sport ripped Nashville's overtime epidemic on X:

"Not something to be proud of," a fan wrote.

The Ally 400 ran an extra 31 laps, and with every overtime restart, the frontrunners lost their top spots amidst the fuel mishap.

"So many deserving drivers have been screwed out of wins over this. Get rid of it," a user wrote.
"An embarrassing one at most. Abolish overtime," another user stated.

A user gave a hilarious reference to the above-mentioned NASCAR's post on X.

"This is like bragging about that frat party in college where you downed more vodka shots than anyone else without vomiting," wrote the user.

Here are some more reactions by NASCAR fans to the green-white-checker finish:

"This is not something to be proud of. The legitimacy of this race was completely thrown out. It was really disgraceful how it ended. I have really grown to loathe gwc finishes. I guess drama and entertainment is more important than actual racing," a fan wrote.
"Restrict every race to 1 overtime attempt. That was an embarrassment to the sport," another fan said.

A look into the 5 overtime restarts at the 19th race of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season

The rain-delayed Ally 400 race at Nashville Superspeedway saw Joey Logano emerge victorious in the chaotic final moments. Sunday's Cup Series race ended with five green-white-checker restarts.

The late-race show started on lap 298 when Austin Cindric and Noah Gragson collided for the P21. Consequently, the overtime restarts began. After the start of the first restart, Kyle Larson slid into Ross Chastain while pressing Denny Hamlin on the first turn, resulting in a third restart. This time, Hendrick's Larson, who was the frontrunner, ran out of fuel at the start, which collected Kyle Busch and ended Busch's hopes of securing his maiden win for the year.

The fourth restart's credit goes to Josh Berry, as he got wrecked on turn 4 and brought out the 15th caution of the day. During this time, the majority of the frontrunners, like Hamlin, who was looking for his fourth win of the season, pitted due to lack of fuel. On the final restart, Joey Logano who was on the verge of a fuel mishap, blocked the hard-charging 23XI Racing driver Tyler Reddick for the win. Logano then confirmed his berth in the 2024 Cup Series playoffs alongside his Team Penske teammate, Austin Cindric.
