With RFK Racing expanding to three charters in the 2025 season, all eyes are on the Brad Keselowski-owned outfit. Ahead of the upcoming campaign, the crew chief for RFK's No. 17 team, Scott Graves, reflected on the team's aspirations for next year.
One of NASCAR's biggest teams in the 2000s, RFK Racing was seemingly past its prime in the Cup Series by mid 2010s. A back-to-back Cup champion outfit in 2003 and 2004, it wasn't until former champion Brad Keselowski brought a share in the team in 2022 that RFK started rising to prominence once again.
Entering the 2025 campaign, RFK Racing has hit new strides, and the team will be fielding a new third charter in the upcoming Cup campaign. The team leased a charter from Rick Ware Racing, a team they have a technical alliance with.
Reflecting on their goals and aspirations for the upcoming season, Chris Buescher's crew chief Scott Graves on their three-car operation. Speaking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Graves emphasized the significance of this expansion and the challenges it entails. He said:
"I know Brad’s been very open in talking about his desire from the very beginning. He wanted it to be a three-car team. It probably didn’t happen fast enough for him, but I think in terms of our growth, it’s on target.
"We have improved performance in the last couple of years," he added. "That has led to us have a little more success. (It has) Put us in a position where we can expand to a third team like that."
Former Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Preece will pilot RFK's third charter. Elaborating on the team's preparations, Graves said:
"Obviously it's a big challenge. It's definitely interesting to be a part of and see it happen. Definitely excited about it as a company to see that kind of growth and what we have been able to do here."
Brad Keselowski on RFK Racing's goals for 2025
Co-owner Brad Keselowski is targetting more wins as RFK prepare for the upcoming season.
For Keselowski, the 2025 season represents a critical juncture. Entering the fourth year of his involvement with RFK Racing, Keselowski is setting ambitious goals for the team, telling RACER:
"We want to win races. We want to win more races. We’ve won six point-paying races over the last three seasons, and we want to be able to do that in one season. That would be a good mark for us."
Looking ahead, Keselowski is determined to elevate the entire team:
"We want to put all of our cars in the playoffs. There’s a lot of challenges, no doubt. But we just continue to improve as an organization."
Only one of the two RFK Racing charters reached Cup Series playoffs in the 2024 season. While Brad Keselowski ended his winless streak, Chris Buescher finished 17th.
