Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife, Amy, didn’t hold back while discussing the idea behind Dry January and their dislike for New Year’s resolutions’ on their podcast, “Dale Jr. Download.” The couple took a playful jab at the trend of abstaining from alcohol in January, with Amy jokingly saying that those who participate in Dry January shouldn’t be trusted.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been married to Amy since 2016, and they are one of the most adorable couples in the motorsports world. The couple began dating in 2009 after Dale hired Amy to design his home’s interior and kept their relationship private for almost two years. They got engaged in Germany on June 17, 2015.
On the latest episode of the “Dale Jr. Download” podcast, two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. was joined by his wife and special co-host Amy, where they discussed several topics, including New Year resolutions. When they asked about any New Year’s resolutions, did they get tired of hearing it?
Reflecting on her light-hearted skepticism about the popular "Dry January" trend, Amy said:
“I do believe in like I can set a goal for myself for the year or focus on wellness, which I absolutely feel like I should do. I don't believe in dry January.” Why does everybody have to do it for that long? Is everybody drinking so much they feel like they need to detoxify for 30 days? A week's good enough. I don't think people who do that should be trusted.”
Sharing his views on Dry January practitioners, who abstain from alcohol for the first month of the year, Dale said:
“I'm so disappointed when I hear that. When somebody tells me that they're like taking a month off, just quit altogether or just, you know, what's this one month ****.”
Amy shared how Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s perspective changed on marriage
Two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion didn’t see marriage as a necessity for years before getting married to Amy. Although he wanted children, Amy didn’t want kids without the foundation of marriage.
During an interview with “In Depth With Graham Bensinger,” in 2018, Dale Earnhardt’s wife, Amy, explained how her husband’s mind changed about marriage after realizing family’s value.
Amy said:
“He said so many times for so many years that he just wasn't going to get married. He didn't want to get married. I think because he realized how important it was and how important family was, and that is kind of the starting element of it. And he wanted to do all of that right.
“Coming from his background with his mom and dad and just all the things they went through, I think he realized that if he continued with this path he was on mentally, he wasn't going to be much different.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Amy have two daughters: Isla Rose Earnhardt, who was born on April 30, 2018, and Nicole Lorraine Earnhardt, who was born on October 12, 2020.
