In 2014, Dale Earnhardt Jr. had one of the most important seasons of the second half of his career. Junior had moved from DEI to Hendrick Motorsports in 2008. But despite his prior success, which included 17 wins in the #8 car, Earnhardt Jr.'s phase with the #88 didn't get off to the best start.
While Dale Earnhardt Jr. won a race in his first season with HMS in 2008, at Michigan, his second win in the #88 car came at the same racetrack, but in 2012. This was then followed by another winless season in 2013.
Then, came the most successful season of Dale Jr. with HMS in 2014, where he won four races, including his second Daytona 500. And it was after his second win at Pocono that season in August, that Earnhardt Jr. revealed the 'simple joys' of his life.
"Amy, [Washington] Redskins, my family, drinking a cold beer," Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
Further sharing his thoughts on that phase of his life, Dale Jr. added:
"Everything about life right now has been great. I got my professional life good, and the personal life’s doing good (with then-girlfriend Amy Reimann)."
The #88 driver also thanked his team owner, Rick Hendrick for believing in him through the tough patch of his career. He thanked Mr. H for making his life better and sticking with him as a driver despite having reasons to replace him.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Amy Earnhardt, a brief timeline
In June 2015, Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Amy Reimann. The two would later end up marrying at the end of 2016, on New Year's Eve.
A year later, Dale Jr. and his wife announced that they were expecting their first child. In 2020, the family of three grew to a family of four as Amy gave birth to their second daughter.
It's worth mentioning that in 2017, months after his marriage to Amy, Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced that he'd be retiring at the end of the season. But despite his retirement, the future NASCAR Hall of Famer remained as close a part of the sport as ever, thanks to his media company Dirty Mo Media.
Currently, Junior remains one of the most popular and influential figures in the sport despite retiring as a full-timer in 2017. And lately, his wife Amy has also begun to make monthly appearances alongside Junior on his podcast show. In fact, speaking about Amy Earnhardt on the Dale Jr. Download, NASCAR veteran Kenny Wallace recently said:
"I love it when Amy Earnhardt's on there. Because she de-bulls**ts everything. She's gangster as all hell."
Wallace remarked that Amy comes once a month on the Dale Jr. Download, adding further that she dresses her husband, and takes care of him.
