Richard Childress Racing on Monday announced a new charter for the 2025 Cup Series season. Besides Austin Dillon's #3 team, and Kyle Busch's #8 team, RCR will field the new #33 team in the Cup Series. Along with this, they announced that Austin Hill's crew chief Andy Street will be in charge of the new #33 team.
RCR already has two full-time charters, and the new third charter is going to be under a part-time obligation. The Chevrolet-backed team is set to put Will Brown, and multiple other drivers for the new charter next season.
Street worked with Hill in the 2024 Xfinity Series season, but the new change promoted him to the Cup Series. Chad Haney, who was in charge of RCR's alliance with other teams, will take over Hill's Crew Chief duty in 2025.
Sharing the news, NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass wrote on X:
"RCR announces it will run a third Cup team for multiple races w/multiple drivers. Andy Street, who was crew chief for Austin Hill, will crew chief ... Chad Haney, who was at RCR helping with alliances, will crew chief Austin Hill ... Danny Stockman remains Jesse Love crew chief."
Richard Childress Racing will look to boost their season after both their drivers missed the playoffs this season. Kyle Busch, their star driver, ended his season with a victory, whereas Austin Dillon won at Richmond, but his playoff entry was denied by NASCAR.
Busch ended the season in 20th place with 766 points, five Top 5s, 10 Top 10s, and a stage win. Whereas, Dillion was further down in 32nd place with 493 points, a victory, a Top Five, and five Top 10s.
Richard Childress makes his feelings known about the new Cup Series addition for Richard Childress Racing
Richard Childress, the Chairman and CEO of Richard Childress Racing, opened up about his team's mega plan for the 2025 Cup Series season. Here's what he said in the official press release on the team's website:
“Andy Street brings a wealth of knowledge to our NASCAR Cup Series program as we continue to evaluate ways to build a deeper bench and promote from within. This move gives Andy the chance to gain NextGen experience and have a bigger opportunity on the Cup side while still contributing to our Xfinity Series program and working with our alliance partners."
"Chad Haney is already well situated for his new position as crew chief of the No.21 Chevrolet given his most recent experience as head mechanic liaison between RCR and our alliances. He’s very detailed and has built trust and camaraderie with the team," he added.
Richard Childress Racing fields two full-time charters in the Xfinity Series, #21 for Austin Hill and #2 for Jesse Love. Both drivers won races in 2024 and qualified for playoffs.
