Following Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s win at the Talladega Superspeedway, JTG Daugherty Racing boss Brad Daugherty declared they don’t make any excuses despite being a small team. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has been driving for JTG Daugherty since 2020 when the Harrisburg-based outfit ran two cars. Team co-owner and former Cleveland Cavaliers center Brad Daugherty downsized to a single-car team with the No. 47 Chevrolet Camaro in 2022.

In an interview with SiriusXM, the team boss applauded his crew for working hard amid the challenges of running one car in the NASCAR Cup Series.

“One thing about our group over there in Harrisburg, we don’t make any excuses,” Daugherty said.

Daugherty shared there were some “dog days” for small teams like theirs. However, good race results like Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s recent P1 finish at The Brickyard make the team feel their efforts behind the scenes were not in vain.

“There's some dog days for small teams, but days like yesterday make it completely worth it,” he added [1:21].

The former NBA All-Star player expressed the team was excited to go racing again at Charlotte Motor Speedway, saying:

“We cannot wait to get to Charlotte this weekend and run that roval because it takes some mojo in there and hope we put it all in there.”

The YellaWood 500 from Talladega Superspeedway witnessed Ricky Stenhouse Jr. beating Brad Keselowski to the finish line by 0.006 seconds. He was involved in the record-breaking 28-car wreck and sustained damage but was able to keep his car going.

The top five finishers were completed by William Byron, Kyle Larson, and Erik Jones, respectively.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him” - Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to Brad Daugherty after the Talladega win

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. commended his team for working hard amid an “up and down season.” The Talladega race was the 37-year-old driver’s first victory in the NASCAR Cup Series since winning the season-opener at Daytona 500 in 2023.

In a post-race interview, the Mississippi native said:

“This team has put a lot of hard work in. Obviously, we haven’t won since the 500 in ’23 and it’s been up and down season. It was a lot of hard work this season just trying to find a little bit of speed but we knew that this track is one of ours to come get,” Stenhouse Jr. said [0:16]

When asked about team boss Brad Daugherty who was not at the track, Stenhouse Jr. said he’s looking forward to seeing him.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him [Brad Daugherty]. I’m looking forward to going to North Carolina and helping clean up. We’re working on that now with Team Rubicon to go out there and help clean up. So looking forward to that. This win’s really really special,” Stenhouse Jr. said. [1:25]

Earlier this year, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. signed a multi-year extension with JTG Daugherty Racing to drive the No. 47 Chevy in 2025 and beyond. Since joining in 2020, the driver has won two races - each at the only superspeedway tracks on the calendar (Daytona and Talladega). He also scored 10 top-5 and 26 top-10 finishes.
