Ryan Blaney slammed Carson Hocevar for his on-track ordeal at Nashville last weekend. This has come after the Spire Motorsports driver tangled with Harrison Burton and jeopardized his race during the Ally 400 at the Nashville Superspeedway.
During the Lap 244 of the race, Brad Keselowski crashed against the wall and lost control of his car after he made contact with Austin Dillon. This brought out the tenth caution of the race and slowed the field down.
However, Carson Hocevar seemed uninterested in slowing down and rammed his car behind Harrison Burton's Ford. As a result, the #21 driver lost places and joined the race at the back of the grid. This wasn't something that Ryan Blaney took all too well.
"That’s something I’ve seen too many times out of that guy from different series," said Blaney. "That’s not cool. Don’t do that. I think everyone made a big deal when Hocevar did that in the Cup race, and then they rightfully penalized him after the race. That’s the only way you’ll get that stuff to stop.
"You have to make them pay a lot of money, fine them from points, things like that. If it’s bad enough, make them sit out. I think NASCAR did the right thing of penalizing because you have to slap people. There has to be repercussions for what you do when it’s something like that," Ryan Blaney added.
In the end, Carson Hocevar finished the race in 16th place, while Harrison Burton, whose #21 Ford Mustang did not suffer critical damage, crossed the finish line in 28th position.
Following the incident, NASCAR slapped a hefty $50,000 fine on Hocevar and deducted 25 driver points from the #77 driver. The incident reportedly breached NASCAR's 4.4B Member Code of Conduct Penalty Options and Guidelines.
Carson Hocevar responds to Harrison Burton incident amid Ryan Blaney's criticism
While Ryan Blaney slammed Carson Hocevar, the 21-year-old also gave his side of the story on the much-talked-about incident with Harrison Burton. The Spire Motorsports driver revealed that he respected the NASCAR punishment amid all agreement or disagreement. Hocevar said that he had no intentions of "spinning Burton around".
"My intentions were not by any means to have him (spun) around). You know, I went up to bump him like you’ve seen 1,000 times, and happened to me a lot. He wanted to use 1,000 pounds of brake pressure in front of me, and then obviously, it happened from that," the 21-year-old said.
Carson Hocevar is now 24th in the Cup Series standings with318 points following the Ally 400 while Harrison Burton is 33rd with 217 points.
