Connor Zilisch, the young rising star in the motorsports realm, proved his capabilities again at Watkins Glen a few hours ago. The eighteen-year-old made history by becoming the youngest driver to win his Xfinity Series debut race with JR Motorsports Chevrolet Number #88. This new achievement of young talent got him appreciation from many of the leading drivers.
The Trackhouse Racing team shared an X (formerly known as Twitter) post of Connor Zilisch winning the race, and, car number #1 driver Ross Chastain, congratulated him. Chastain was seen more thrilled than driver number #88 for his win. Driver number #1 couldn't contain his excitement and ran to Zilisch and hugged and high-fived him while he still was in the car.
The Trackhouse Racing Team captioned the post:
"ROSS MAY BE EVEN HAPPIER THAN CONNOR!"
It was not only Chastain who celebrated Connor Zilisch's victory—Cup Series lead driver Ryan Blaney wished him as well. Blaney went to the stage and shook his hand. Tyler Reddick also went up the stage to congratulate driver number #88 for his insane finish at his debut race.
Zane Smith driver number #71 also went up and high-fived the official Red Bull athlete for his win. Noah Gragson driver number #10 hugged Zilisch for his new achievement. Connor Zilisch even bested out Cup Series drivers like Ross Chastain and Joey Logano at Watkins Glen. Chastain finished in sixth place and Logano in ninth place.
Connor Zilisch showed his gratitude to Dale Earnhardt Jr.
In a post-race interview, the teen sensation thanked the owner of JR Motorsports for giving him a chance to prove himself. He connected with Dale Earnhardt Jr. over a phone call and said:
"Thank you, I appreciate it, Dale. It's cool, it's really cool I appreciate everything you've done for me. It's a pleasure to be racing for you guys."
Continuing further, he highlighted that he has been working hard for many months for this moment and feels relieved knowing that he can compete against the top drivers.
"I prepare for every race like it's the most important race of my life. That's kind of what I did today," explained Zilisch.
The JR Motorsports driver not only won his debut race but also won the pole position. He outperformed the series leaders like Justin Allgaier and Cole Custer with a best time of 71.028 seconds. Allgaier was 0.4 seconds, and Custer was 0.951 seconds behind the rising star.
Connor Zilisch dominated stage 1 of the race and was in first place, and Justin Allgaier was in second place. Driver number #88 led the majority of the race, and by the end of stage 2, the teen sensation ended up in third place. But he managed to save enough fuel and take the victory home.
