Ryan Preece recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of joining Haas Factory Racing. Preece, who currently races for Stewart-Haas Racing, is one of the names expected to continue racing under Gene Haas.
According to the latest developments, Stewart-Haas Racing would shut down its operations at the end of this season. Gene Haas, in its place, is planning to form Haas Factory Racing ahead of the 2025 season and stay as the sole owner of the outfit.
While the team is reportedly set, the drivers are yet to be finalized. Reports say Cole Custer, the Xfinity Series champion, is a front-runner for the Haas Factory Racing seat in Cup Series next year.
However, Preece's future in the sport remains up in the air. When asked if he would join Haas' team season in the Xfinity Series, he replied,
"Man, I don’t know, that’d be crazy, wouldn’t it? But you never know.”
“I think I just want to win races so we’re going to do whatever we can to do that. That’s what I’ve done all my life and we’re going to work hard for it," Preece further explained.
Haas' team is currently valued at $250 million, and he reportedly agreed to keep on the NASCAR Cup Series charter and run two Xfinity Series teams in 2025.
"My commitment to motorsports hasn’t changed, just the scope of my involvement. Operating a four-car Cup Series team has become too arduous but, at the same time, I still need a platform to promote Haas Automation and grow HaasTooling.com," Haas said in a statement.
How has Ryan Preece performed in 2024 so far?
Ryan Preece's 2024 season has been far from brilliant or eye-catching. The SHR driver is in 28th place in the Drivers' Standings after 18 races. So far, he has managed to claim one top-ten finish but suffered a DNF in one race.
As the statistics do not put Preece in a strong position to claim the Cup Series continuation next season, one might expect him to move to the Xfinity Series if a team wishes to have him onboard.
Ryan Preece is a race winner in both Xfinity and Truck Series and a proven racer in the lower series. Despite this, if the SHR driver fails to earn himself a seat next year, his reported possible destination could be the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
