Young NASCAR talent Sam Mayer has his sights set on finding success with his new team Haas Factory Team in the Xfinity Series next season. Mayer moves from JR Motorsports to HFT following an impressive Xfinity campaign.
Mayer is moving to the brand-new Haas Factory Team, that came into picture after Stewart-Haas Racing's dissolution at the end of the 2024 campaign. The Gene Haas-owned outfit is set to field one Cup charter with Cole Custer and two Xfinity Series charters with Sheldon Creed and Sam Mayer at the helm.
Reacting to HFT's new promotional video on X, Mayer made a confident announcement ahead of the 2025 campaign. He wrote:
"New team. Fresh start. More wins. #HaasFactoryTeam"
To which, HFT's X handle replied with fist bumps:
Sam Mayer's Xfinity Series journey has seen him win seven races in three full seasons with Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s outfit. The two-time ARCA Menards Series East champion also came close to winning the title in 2023, making it all the way to the Championship 4 field. Ever since his move to JRM in 2022, Mayer has consistently emerged as a championship contender. He secured three wins in his last campaign, at Texas, Iowa, and Charlotte ROVAL.
For the 21-year-old, the move to HFT represents an opportunity to grow as a driver and strengthen his bid for a future in the NASCAR Cup Series. In an earlier statement, Sam Mayer had explained his motivation for joining HFT, stating (via NASCAR.com):
"The Xfinity Series is a really great place to learn and grow and get yourself ready for the NASCAR Cup Series. Cup is my ultimate goal, and to really push myself to become the kind of driver who can succeed in Cup, I needed to hone my race skills."
"The Haas team got Cole Custer ready for his moment and it’s a place that will help get me and Sheldon ready for our moments," he added.
Sam Mayer's ultimate goal: The Cup Series
Despite his young age, Sam Mayer is determined to make it to the highest echelon of American stock car racing, the NASCAR Cup Series. In an interview with NASCAR.com earlier in 2024 before his HFT move, the 21-year-old driver had expressed his ambition, stating:
"I’m not going to deny the fact that whatever team, when, if that comes soon in the next year or so, it’s going to be a step. It’s going to be a long lesson to learn at some point in time. You see a lot of these other guys that I’ve been racing against the last couple of years, they are in Cup now and still haven’t won yet."
Despite the steep learning curve, Mayer is confident in his ability to succeed. He added:
"It’s interesting because it’s that big of a step and that much harder, I acknowledge that. But I feel like I can go up there and make something happen."
Sam Mayer finished the 2024 campaign in ninth place. It was a downgrade from his 2023 finish, where the Wisconsin native had ended up in third place after a thrilling season-finale in Phoenix.
