NASCAR driver Kyle Busch will make his first appearance at the 39th Chili Bowl Nationals this Friday.
The $80M worth driver (per Celebrity Net Worth) had a rough NASCAR season last year. Busch failed to win any Cup races and broke his 19-year streak, missing the playoffs. However, he got off to a strong start at the Tulsa Shootout earlier this month.
This week, Busch will drive a Lucas Oil-sponsored car at the Chili Bowls. The 39-year-old shared pictures of his midget car with the Toyota Racing Development (TRD) logo, on Instagram and wrote:
"Back in the Expo. See y’all on Friday.😎"
The logo surprised some since he currently races the No. 8 Chevrolet at Richard Childress Racing in NASCAR.
The "Super Bowl of Midget Racing" at the SageNet Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma is scheduled from January 13 to 18. The event will have over 300 drivers, including previous winners Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell.
Kyle Busch will debut at the event with his nine-year-old son Brexton. The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion also attended the Tulsa Shootout and won the 30-lap Winged Outlaw and A-Class races.
"Having more experience of being on the dirt" - Kyle Busch on finally debuting at the Chili Bowl
Kyle Busch knows racing against lighter and more experienced drivers will be tough at the Chili Bowl. He said he is preparing by learning from other racers. In an interview with FloRacing last month, Busch talked about getting more into dirt racing because of his son Brexton.
"I feel like this year I decided to go run the Chili Bowl just with all the dirt racing and stuff that I've been doing the last couple of years with Brexton. Running in the Tulsa Shootout the last couple of years, I've gotten my feet wet more and more with the realm of these cars. But first time really behind the wheel of a there, so that's going to be interesting," Kyle Busch said (00:00)
Busch previously was weary with the idea of a 200lb man competing against lightweight kids but changed his mind this season and shared his preparations for the event.
"I would say the biggest reason why I've changed my mind now is just having more experience of being on the dirt, knowing a little bit more of what to expect being on the dirt... Preparation for any event kind of goes the same, right? You want to look at some video, you want to study some past film, and kind of see some of that," he added (01:13 omwards).
Busch was new to open-wheel cars and has been practicing with smaller cars to improve.
