In a 2018 interview, Bubba Wallace opened up how he made his then-girlfriend Amanda Carter upset. Wallace took part in Jeff Gluck's 12 questions interview and is in a relationship with Carter, whom he'd known since his school days.
During his conversation with Gluck, Wallace revealed how one funny remark from him didn't sit well with his future wife.
He was asked by Gluck who his pick would be if NASCAR came up to him and asked him which celebrity he'd like to host. The current 23XI Racing driver said he'd like to get Kevin Hart, which would be 'awesome.'
Having said that, he revealed he was 'bummed' for not meeting Charlize Theron, who was the honorary starter at Daytona in 2018. Bubba Wallace further elaborated:
"I’m a brunette guy, obviously Amanda (Carter, his girlfriend) is a brunette. But (Theron) has always been my top blonde. Ever. Like ever since I was like 10 ... She’s there, and yeah…no. Peyton Manning was there though, so (Tennessee) Vol For Life. I told Amanda that Charlize was there and she was like, “Cool.” She didn’t like it."
It's worth mentioning that Wallace and Carter, who knew each other from their school days, reconnected in 2015. After that, they began dating each other, and after several years of dating, they got married on December 31, 2022.
Earlier this year, Amanda gave birth to their first child, Becks Hayden.
Bubba Wallace on whether he gives importance to apologizing for on-track incidents to his rivals
During his interview with Jeff Gluck in 2018, Bubba Wallace was asked about the need to apologize if he got into another driver during a race regardless of that being his intent or not.
Wallace said it was important as he proceeded to give an example regarding his future boss, Denny Hamlin.
"I reached out to (Denny) Hamlin to say, “We’re all good?” He’s not good. But I did my part, so it’s like, “OK, I’ve got nothing to worry about.” (Note: The drivers apparently spoke a few hours after this interview was recorded)," Bubba Wallace said.
Interestingly, the two drivers who would share a driver-owner relationship from 2021 onwards under 23XI Racing, got into an altercation. This was because of their late-race incident at Daytona while they were battling for the second place. Their feud carried over to Atlanta and got to a point where the two drivers got at it in a motorhome until their friends 'came busting in the front door.'
But speaking about this in 2018, Wallace pointed to the infamous feud between Joey Logano and Matt Kenseth. He said he took 'notes' from the Logano-Kenseth feud.
Wallace added that he sees himself racing his on-track rivals for another 10-15 years, further emphasizing his take on apologizing for on-track incidents.
