Earlier this year, Bubba Wallace and his wife Amanda announced that they would soon become parents. The 23XI Racing driver further revealed that the baby is due in the same week as his birthday.
Wallace even joked about the baby being due during his birthday week it on his social media handle.
And recently, Bubba Wallace spoke about how he and his wife are handling her pregnancy now that they're five weeks away from the birth of the child.
Wallace said in a conversation with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on his podcast show:
"I've been super calm, cool, and collected about it, right? Amanda, she's been going through the ups and downs and just the excitement of motherhood for her—feeling the baby kick and all the things you said. She loves it; she thinks it's the coolest thing ever. We're five weeks out Thursday, and it’s crazy to think. She’s starting to feel some pain and some pressure in certain areas, and now she's worried like, 'Oh my God, if I do one wrong move, is the baby coming now?' She’s overthinking everything." [43:23]
Wallace further revealed how his wife asked her whether he was excited, to which he simply told her that there's 'a lot going on' in his life. It's worth mentioning that the #23 driver is currently out of being in the playoffs, sitting over 20 points below the cutline with one race left in the regular season.
But he clarified that he's excited to be a dad, even though it takes a lot for him to get excited.
"We're both enjoying the process. She's grown; she's strictly belly, hasn’t put on any other weight anywhere else. It’s crazy. She says that might change in the last couple of weeks, but it's been awesome to see her grow and enjoy the whole process. Every time I'm around with her, she's like, 'Oh, he's kicking,'" Wallace added.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. prepares Bubba Wallace for a unique moment one experiences right after becoming a father
As Bubba Wallace shared his thoughts about becoming a father soon, the host of the podcast, Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed how he misses that buildup. Earnhardt claimed that he wouldn't give Wallace any advice, but simply talk about his favorite aspect of when he became a father.
He described that when one is in the delivery room and the baby comes, there's a brief moment of happiness and thrill as the baby goes to the mother. But after that, the nurse takes the newborn to a little metal plate to weigh it, which while it is closer to the mother, allows the father a unique moment of being with his child.
"It's your moment. It's a dad moment, just you and the baby just fro a brief moment, you get a second alone with the child. You notice it's real, it's real," Earnhardt told Bubba Wallace. [45:50]
The former NASCAR driver told his guest that he would love all of that, especially being how he is as a person.
"Knowing how you are, and you live with big emotions, and when things are good and you're happy, you're really happy and I'm kind of the same way. That whole thing is going to be a hell of a ride for you, I'm excited for you," Earnhardt added.
Bubba Wallace is currently 21 points behind the playoff spots ahead of the Cook Out Southern 500 in Darlington. The 31-year-old is in 13th position in the regular standings with 637 points to his name.
