Tony Stewart has clarified his wife Leah Pruett's desire to be a mother again, revealing his fight and the big benefit he could reap from her decision. The legendary driver recently entered parenthood with Leah in November of this past season, welcoming baby Dominic.
Stewart and Leah, both accomplished motorsports drivers, tied the knot in November 2021. Two years later in December 2023, Pruett announced she'd start a family with the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, and thus, withdrew from the 2024 NHRA Top Fuel slate.
As a result, Stewart replaced his wife, piloting the McPhillips Racing‘s Top Fuel Dragster.
In an exclusive interview on Epartrade, Tony Stewart explained Leah would recover in a couple of weeks and could return to the NHRA. The former NASCAR driver also revealed his wife's desire to become a mother again and that he fought the decision. He said:
"It's just amazing how strong and tough my wife is and what she does, but she does want to be a mom next year. I''m kind of fighting it a little bit."
The Indiana native then highlighted his benefit if Leah were to become a mother for a second time.
"I guess the bonus to it is I get to drive a Top Fuel car again next year, so either way I get to win," Stewart added.
Courtesy of the couple's decision to become parents, Stewart earned his Rookie of the Year honors in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, clinching two final rounds, four semifinal appearances, and a P9 finish in Top Fuel points.
When Tony Stewart gave his wife Leah's strong-willed take on parenthood
Before Dominic entered this world, Tony Stewart had a lengthy chat with NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass about his new journey. The 53-year-old has etched his name as one of the most fearless and ready-to-roll drivers who claimed the highly challenging feat of becoming the only driver to complete the exhausting 1100-mile Indy-Charlotte Double in a single day.
However, when it came to changing diapers of his baby, the NASCAR great revealed he tried everything to sideline himself from that particular responsibility. Nonetheless, Stewart's pursuit was rendered useless in front of Leah's strong-willed parenthood.
"I'm trying to find every and any way I can to get out of having to change diapers. But my wife is a very strong-willed woman, and she has assured me that I am not, under any circumstances, getting out of these responsibilities as a father and a parent," Stewart said.
It will be interesting to see what happens to Tony Stewart and Leah Pruett's NHRA future as another baby's arrival is highly probable. Will Leah mark her drag racing return for a brief period before going on a potential second maternity break or would be return directly in 2026? Only time will tell.
