Two-time Xfinity Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. will return to motorsport at the South California 400 in his iconic red #8 Budweiser Chevy. The late-model model car race is scheduled to take place at the Florence Motor Speedway on November 23 and 24, 2024. The event will feature 56 cars, and Earnhardt Jr. expressed his views on the tough competition ahead.
The 50-year-old mentioned that 56 drivers have already signed up for the 250-lap race and that he was sceptical about securing a spot in the top 20 cars. The race results only have up to 36 spots in the ranking and "the best of best late model cars."
"I'm really excited about that. There's not many long races in the late model stock ecosystem. There are 56 cars currently signed up to enter this race for 36 spots, and these are some of the best of the best late model stocks in all of the southeast, Mid Atlantic region; trying to even make this race will be an accomplishment," Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. Continuing further, the 50-year-old highlighted that Ryan Millington had secured the pole position for the race. He also suggested a plan for the race if the driver's count increased from 56.
"There's 36 cars or more; if more sign up, split into two heat races. You and the top six of those will go to the main event. There are four provisionals; he has his own system on how he goes out to provisionals, but listen, man, it's gonna be a tough race to make," he added. [01:16]
The former NASCAR Cup Series driver is pumped up for the race and expressed it with his fans.
