NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski is not happy at all about the sad fate that befell Instagram-famous pet squirrel, Peanut. Peanut was taken away from its owner by the officials of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The euthanization of Peanut the squirrel, along with Fred the raccoon, has created outrage among fans. The two pets' owner Mark Longo had been actively updating Peanut's 500K Instagram followers since his seizure, leading up to his death. A statement from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said that the seizure of Peanut and Fred was on account of "potentially unsafe housing of wildlife that could carry rabies and the illegal keeping of wildlife as pets."
Following this, former Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski extended his support to Longo and his family for their loss. Keselowski shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) from General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, Katherine Boyle, which read:
"Americans disagree on pretty much everything except that calling animal control on your neighbor’s social media squirrel to have the state kill it is the epitome of evil."
Sharing the post, RFK Racing driver Brad Keselowski wrote:
"Oddly enough, We may have found what unites us. Somebody needs to answer for this"
Other prominent figures, including Elon Musk, have voiced their opposition to the decision made by the New York State Department, with many condemning it as animal cruelty.
Meanwhile, Mark Longo expressed his emotions on losing Peanut the Squirrel via a post on Instagram. The post is captioned:
"RIP MY BEST FRIEND. Thank you for the best 7 years of my life. Thank you for bringing so much joy to us and the world. I’m sorry I failed you but thank you for everything ❤️ Yall we desperately need your help. Help us raise the money to fight this and help @pnuts_freedom_farm continue to help animals like peanut."
In racing matters, RFK Racing's #6 driver Brad Keselowski secured a spot in the 2024 playoffs, however, following underwhelming performances in the first leg of the playoffs, he could not advance to the Round of 12. Keselowski will start the penultimate race of the 2024 season at Martinsville Speedway on P18. Fans can catch the action live on MRN, NBC Sports, and SiriusXM NASCAR channel.
Brad Keselowski potentially inches closer to third charter deal with RWR amid Ryan Preece testing RFK car
Besides being a Cup Series driver, Brad Keselowski is also the co-owner of RFK Racing. Keselowski's team has been linked with acquiring a third charter for the upcoming season, and with SHR driver Ryan Preece testing the RFK Ford at Homestead-Miami, a NASCAR insider believes that RFK Racing is now closer than ever to adding a third charter.
Recently, Fox Sports' renowned NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass shed light on RFK Racing's plan for the future. Responding to a fan's query, he wrote on X:
Brad(Keselowski) said last week he still didn't have anything to say yet about a third car. Preece testing an RFK car yesterday at the wet weather test at Homestead (just an early exploratory test to see how the tires react) is another sign that will happen. Possible charter through RWR(Rick Ware Racing).
Trackhouse Racing Team acquired a third charter earlier this year, which will be driven by Shane van Gisbergen. Meanwhile, NASCAR team 23XI Racing, who filed an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR has also been linked with acquiring a third charter for the upcoming season.
