Carson Hocevar and Justin Haley recently participated in a cheese stick challenge ahead of the Straight Talk Wireless 400 race. Both the Spire Motorsports drivers did a unique promotional campaign for their sponsor at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
A recent YouTube video captured the #77 Hocevar and #7 Haley in a competition to stretch the longest mozzarella cheese stick of the famous American restaurant chain, Chili's. The 2019 Coke Zero Sugar 400 winner Haley stretched the cheese for almost 21 inches, whereas Hocevar managed to pull it for 37 inches.
Interstingly, the 21-year-old Hocevar, who stands tall at 6 feet 4 inches, won the challenge campaign against the 5 feet 2 inches' Haley, who is also one of the shortest active NASCAR drivers.
Here's the video of the young Cup Series drivers for their promotional campaign:
The #77 Chevy driver Hocevar is in his rookie season with Jeff Dickerson-owned organization and has accumulated only one top-five finish at the playoff race in Watkins Glen. Moreover, he has five top-10s in 33 starts this season.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Haley returned to Spire mid-season after a unique swap with the former #7 Chevy driver Corey LaJoie from Rick Ware Racing. Since his swap with the veteran driver LaJoie, Haley has competed in four races and secured one top-10 finish at Talladega earlier this month.
"I've been happy with it": Justin Haley on his transition from RWR to Spire Motorsports
The full-time Cup Series driver Justin Haley swapped seats with Corey LaJoie and joined Spire Motorsports, where he won his first and only race in NASCAR's premier division. The Indiana native secured a surprising win at the rain-affected Coke Zero Sugar 400 race at Daytona International Speedway in 2019.
After an underwhelming season with Rick Ware Racing and managing only two top-10 finishes in 29 starts, RWR and Spire made an unconventional switch.
Reflecting on being adjusting from his #51 RWR Ford to a #7 Chevy of Spire, Haley in the aforementioned video said(via Frontstretch):
"I'm happy with our car just trying to figure out what works for me. Obviously is quite a bit different than the other two drivers so been a bit of a transition period but I've been happy with it." [1:38]
Furthermore, elaborating on the difference between driving a Chevy and a Ford, Haley added:
"Just the differences between the Chevrolet and the Ford, a lot of differences on how they drive and stuff. So just trying to get reactivated back to the Chevrolet Camp, their simulator, how they do things. All the information they have but it's been good. We had speed in Vegas last week. We're in top 10 for a while and qualified top 10 here today so just try to keep it rolling. [3:01]
As things stand, the #7 Spire driver is set to start 10th on the grid at the 38-car lineup in Homestead-Miami. While his teammate Hocevar will start at P15 on the grid.
