NASCAR recently asked some celebrities who their pick was to win the 2024 Cup Series Champion. One of them was Livvy Dunne, who picked Ryan Blaney to win it all at Phoenix Raceway.
Livvy Dunne is a 22-year-old American gymnast who is a member of the LSU Tigers women’s gymnastics team. Having started her gymnastic training at the age of three, Dunne is also an internet personality, with 5.3 followers on Instagram to show for it.
According to an Instagram post on NASCAR’s official account, Livvy Dunne was asked who was her pick among the final four drivers to win the championship. She replied:
“Ryan Blaney!”
Ryan Blaney is one of the four drivers in the championship battle. Driving the No. 12 Ford Mustang for Team Penske, Blaney punched his ticket to the Championship 4 after winning the final Round of 8 race at Martinsville. He is defending his title against Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick, and William Byron.
For the championship race at Phoenix Raceway, Blaney started 17th, making him the only final four driver to qualify outside the top 10. Logano started in P2 followed by William Byron in P8. Meanwhile, Tyler Reddick completed the top 10 starting grid in P10.
Aside from Livvy Dunne, NASCAR also asked other celebrities about their favorites to win the championship. Chase Rice, Whitney Cummings, and Kal Penn joined Dunne in predicting Ryan Blaney to win at the 1.0-mile track.
Sports personalities Shannon Sharpe, Sheamus, and Seth Jarvis went for Tyler Reddick. Meanwhile, Chad Johnson and Andrew Befumo Jr. picked Joey Logano, with Juan Thornhill the only celebrity choosing William Byron.
Interestingly, American country music singer and songwriter Dierks Bentley bet his money on former NASCAR driver Ricky Rudd.
NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass picked William Byron to win the championship
Bob Pockrass, a veteran NASCAR reporter, picked William Byron to win the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship, which would be a first for the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports driver. Pockrass also predicted a top-five finish comprising Kyle Larson in P2, followed by Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, and Tyler Reddick, respectively.
Pockrass took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his predictions for the championship race. He wrote:
“My pick for Cup championship race: Byron ... top-5: Byron Larson Blaney Logano Reddick ... darkhorse: Bowman.”
If William Byron wins the championship, he would also hand Hendrick Motorsports its first title in the Next Gen era. Kyle Larson was the last driver to give the Concord-based outfit a championship, driving the No. 5 Chevrolet Gen 6 car in 2021.
As a side note, Larson was eliminated from the playoffs after the Round of 8 despite winning the most races this season at six. All four Championship 4 drivers won three races each.
Coming back to William Byron, the Charlotte native had three race wins, 12 top-5s, and 20 top-10s entering the season finale at Phoenix Raceway. Perhaps his most important win was at the Daytona 500, a first for the No. 24 driver.
