Joey Logano's victory at Las Vegas also marked the 41st win for his crew chief Paul Wolfe, who now has the most wins of any active crew chief on the grid. Rodney Childers is second on the list with 40 wins.
Las Vegas marked Logano's third win this season. While he had been performing quite consistently, it wasn't until Nashville that he locked his spot in the playoffs with his first win of the season. He then repeated his success in Atlanta.
After a shunt in Talladega, he was in danger of dropping out of the playoffs. However, a fantastic drive in Las Vegas saw Logano win by a competitive margin. He has now secured his place in the Championship 4 at Phoenix. This was his 35th Cup Series victory. He is now the first driver in NASCAR to have made the Championship 4 on six separate occasions.
Meanwhile, Wolfe, who started working with Logano in the 2020 season, marked his 41st win at Las Vegas. As mentioned, this is the most of any active crew chief on the grid.
Both the driver and his crew chief helped in making it a double-history weekend for Penske.
Wolfe has been a part of Team Penske since the 2010 season, back when the team was called Penske Racing. He first worked with Brad Keselowski on his #22 Dodge in the Xfinity Series. He helped the team grab its first title in the championship.
The next season, he moved to the Cup Series with Keselowski and then helped the team in winning its first Cup Series championship in the 2012 season.
He then won the title again in 2022 with Joey Logano, who is one of the contenders for the championship in the current season as well.
"We were the best team": Paul Wolfe reviews race at Las Vegas after Joey Logano's win
Despite Joey Logano's victory, Wolfe feels that their car was not particularly the fastest compared to their competitors. However, he feels that they "were the best team" out on the track.
He told NASCAR that the crew's work together and the strategic planning helped them to yield the result for Logano and the team.
"You know that's what it was today. We were the best team. Were we the fastest car? No, but we had the best team. I have a great group of guys around me that helped me make those tough calls and we had a plan going into the race, this scenario was talked about how we would handle it."
Joey Logano currently sits at the top of the playoffs standings and has qualified for the Championship 4. In second place is Christopher Bell, followed by Kyle Larson and William Byron.
