Kyle Larson’s wife, Katelyn Larson, recently reflected on a conversation she had with her husband ahead of the Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. She also shared her thoughts on the special moment when Larson celebrated his Bristol victory with their son, Owen.
Larson pilots the #5 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, competing full-time in the Cup Series. The 2021 Cup Series champion has secured 46 race wins in his NASCAR career. 28 of these victories have come in the Cup Series, 15 in the Xfinity Series, and 3 in the Truck Series. The #5 driver has also secured multiple wins across all crown jewel events.
Following a dominant performance in the Bristol Night Race, Larson drove down victory lane followed by his HMS teammate Chase Elliott. As he was celebrating his win, his son, Owen Larson, joined him in his #5 Hendrick Chevy and they lapped around the short track.
Larson's wife Katelyn recently shed light on the father-son celebration at Bristol. In a recent episode of the newly added NASCAR Daily Show hosted by Shannon Spake, she said:
"I was just worried that he was hanging on to the lip of the roof and I'm like 'Gosh just put your arm under there and hang on to like the roll bar or something' but I actually was nervous. I usually am not um but yeah, Kyle said 'I was hanging on to him, he was fine.'" [04:18]
Katelyn Larson was also asked whether she knew Kyle would have a dominant performance at Bristol. She responded by recalling a conversation with her husband before the race.
"I had no idea honestly. I told him I thought Denny(Hamlin) would win the race prior to practice or anything I said 'Denny is really good under pressure' and I think that actually kind of pissed him off that I said that. So maybe I lit a little fire under there and he was like 'No he's not going to win the race, I am.'" [04:45]
After his win at Bristol, Kyle Larson jumped to the top of the driver standings with 3047 points, 15 points ahead of Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell. The Cup Series will return to Kansas Speedway for the Hollywood Casino 400 on September 29th at 3 PM ET.
"Obviously, I don't think that I would be the best" - Kyle Larson lays out expectations for possible F1 opportunity
Kyle Larson has showcased his versatility as an athlete by claiming laurels in different disciplines of motorsport. The #5 driver has been linked with an appearance in Formula One following a comment by McLaren Racing's Zak Brown.
Brown suggested that he has been in conversation with Larson about appearing behind the wheel of a Formula One car. Recently, Larson appeared on Kevin Harvick's Happy Hour podcast and shed light on his expectations from a Formula One GP.
"Obviously, I don't think that I would be the best but I'd hope to not be last. I think that would show how good American oval racers are, that would be neat, or if I was really bad then it would show how bad we are." (1:00)
Larson had also previously claimed that he is a better driver than three-time Formula One Champion Max Verstappen, saying that he is a more well-rounded motorsports athlete than the Dutchman.
