Joey Logano continued to make his rounds of interviews after winning his third career NASCAR Cup Series championship when he sat down with retired driver and TV personality Kenny Wallace. The now-three-time champion shared his mentality when driving for Team Penske, owned by Roger Penske.
The Connecticut native said Penske, a now-five-time Cup Series champion owner, isn't one to cut corners or own a race team that's here today and gone tomorrow because they aren't doing things properly.
Instead, Logano said they keep a "Penske perfect" mindset, which has led to a lot of success over the years, including championships for Team Penske in the last three Cup Series seasons.
"Penske perfect," Logano said. "That's what we try to do. We try to hold ourselves to a high standard. Honestly, we try to be better than everybody. I know that sounds simple, but we want to be clean cut, we want to look right, we want to have our cars look right, we want to win, and we want to treat our sponsors better than anybody. That's what our goals are." (33:35 onwards)
Logano went on to say that the "perfect" mentality comes directly from the boss himself, adding that the winning energy is felt from the time he walks into the Team Penske race shop.
"That comes from Roger. He's never said that to me, but you know that when you walk in the door is that these guys are trying to be better than everybody. Alright, cool, I want to be on that team. I want to be on the winning team. It's just what it is there. It works." (34:01 onwards)."
Logano held off Penske teammate Ryan Blaney at the Phoenix Raceway en route to winning his third career Cup Series championship. The win marked Penske's fifth Cup title and third straight triumph. Logano and Blaney's 1-2 finish was also a first for the organization.
IndyCar driver Scott McLaughlin defended Joey Logano's title win
Joey Logano's third NASCAR Cup Series championship win didn't come without controversy. However, IndyCar Series star Scott McLaughlin came to Logano's defense as many were critical of the victory.
The driver of the #22 Team Penske Ford won this year's title with a 17.1 average finish, which stands as the lowest average of a champion in the sport's history. This sparked displeasure from race fans on X as they expressed how he wasn't a deserving champion. One user, who responded to McLaughlin's celebratory post regarding Logano's win, wrote:
"Only had to participate in a parody points format to pull it off. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻"
However, McLaughlin responded to the user by saying every Cup driver had the same opportunities in the points system that Logano did, and in the end, it was him standing tall.
"Same points system as every other team champ," McLaughlin wrote.
This season marked Logano's 16th full-time season in the Cup Series. Since 2009, Logano has amassed 36 Cup Series victories and three championships, which came in 2018, 2022, and 2024, respectively.
