NASCAR Cup Series regular Kyle Busch recently revealed how missing this season's playoffs has affected him financially. Not being able to make the postseason was a "big hit" for the two-time Cup Series champion, as reported by Racer.com.
Kyle Busch is a 63-time winner in the NASCAR Cup Series. This is the most victories among the current Cup Series drivers and ninth on the all-time wins list. Busch also holds the record for the most number of wins in the Xfinity Series (102) and Truck Series (66).
Busch, who has a net worth of $80 million according to Celebrity Net Worth, is in his second year driving the No. 8 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. The Las Vegas native has been winless for over a year now. Furthermore, he could not deliver a top-10 performance until NASCAR returned from a two-week break due to last month's Summer Olympics.
Although Busch recently joked about not having a lot of responsibilities throughout the postseason, he admitted to losing a considerable amount of money after not qualifying for the playoffs.
"I’ve lost a substantial amount of money, let’s say, in the last few weeks (because) of not making the playoffs, not getting wins and things like that," Busch explained. "That’s a big hit. But again, it is what it is."
This is only the fourth time the former champion has missed the playoffs. However, he has never missed the 10-week-long rumble since 2012.
"We just move on. We go through and try to play spoiler now, and try to go out and be a guy that’s on the outside looking in and take victories from these guys who want them to be able to move to the next round," Busch added.
Busch is currently 20th in the Cup Series standings with 617 points. The Chevy driver has led 191 laps in all this year and amassed five top-5s and 10 top-10s. His next race is at Watkins Glen International on September 15.
"Just didn't get the pushes we needed"- Kyle Busch on his Atlanta finish
Kyle Busch finished inside the top 10 in his last four starts. He recorded back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona and the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington. The 39-year-old speedster finished seventh at Atlanta Motor Speedway last week.
Busch was the only non-playoff driver to finish inside the top 10 at the 1.54-mile quad-oval intermediate speedway in Hampton, Georgia. Following the 260-lap event, the veteran racer took to Instagram and said he was hopeful about winning a speedway race in the upcoming weeks.
"Ran up front and led laps there towards the end," Busch wrote. "Just didn’t get the pushes we needed. Maybe one of these days when I’m leading a speedway race it can be at the 🏁"
"Another T10 we can carry into the Glenn," he added.
Fans can watch Busch in action at The Glen on NBC Sports and USA from 3 PM ET onwards. Radio updates will be available on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
