Dale Earnhardt Jr. has kosmemophobia, which is essentially the fear of cosmetic products and jewelry. Therefore, the NASCAR vet and his wife Amy Earnhardt apparently had a 'loose agreement' that the former would not wear his wedding ring every day after their marriage. However, in an episode of the Dale Jr Download, Amy denied having entered any such agreement.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. met Amy Reimann back in 2009 when her was in charge of designing the former's home interiors in Kannapolis. They started seeing each other shortly after but kept their relationship private until 2011. The couple tied the knot on December 31st, 2017 at Childress Vineyards in Lexington, North Carolina.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s hatred for jewelry is so intense that he feels nauseous at the sight of it. However, the root cause of his antipathy toward jewelry is still unknown. Interestingly, Amy knows how to use her husband's fear in her favor. She brings out her jewelry whenever her husband makes her mad.

"When we got married," recalled Earnhardt Jr.. "We had a bit of a loose agreement that I was not gonna wear a ring every day."
"That's not true," replied Amy. "That's straight-up not true. I told him when I first started dating him like, you should have come with a manual, and this would have fallen in there. He can't really explain the root cause of this."

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s answer to that was,

"It's mostly like...more grossy nausea."

It must have been rather hilarious for the fans when they came to know that an exceptional racer like Dale Earnhardt Jr. who has two NASCAR championships to his credit, and has won several races throughout his career, including a pair of Daytona 500s, was afraid of jewelry.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. blamed his sister for his fear of jewelry

Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed how his sister, Kelley Earnhardt Miller, had made his fear even stronger as a kid. Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt Miller are co-owners of JR Motorsports, an Xfinity Series team that fields talented drivers like Justin Allgaier and Sam Mayer and has 3 championships and 58 wins to its name.

"My sister used to chase me around the house with necklaces and stuff," he said (via NBC Sports). "It’s creepy to me. (Kelley) made it worse. She definitely antagonized me and terrorized me when I was younger."

In another episode of his podcast, Earnhardt Jr. said that his wedding ring was, in fact, made of wood. He doesn't wear it frequently lest it should get scratched.

"My wedding ring is actually a wooden ring," the 49-year-old said. "I don’t want to wear that too much because it could get scratched or broken."

Thanks to his customized QALO rings, which are made of silicon and, according to Earnhardt Jr., are more durable and more comfortable than metal rings.
