2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson recently reflected on his incredible experience at a sprint car race in Australia. He won the inaugural Kubota High Limit Racing International event at Australia’s Perth Motorplex last Monday (December 30).
Larson, who is known as one of the world's most accomplished drivers, sealed a $100,000 victory after beating hometown racer James McFadden in High Limit International. It was the richest-paying sprint car event in Australia’s history.
In a video shared by FloRacing ahead of the Tulsa Shootout heat race, Larson described it as a unique atmosphere at Australia’s Perth Motorplex and the thrill of achieving a $100,000 win in a place where he hasn’t raced often.
“Yeah, it was cool. It was a lot of fun. That track is amazing. The atmosphere is amazing as well. And it was really cool to get to race with Jason Pride and have one of my best friends, Trevor Canalis, crew chief, the car and get a big win. I get my first win in Australia, even though I haven't ran that many races there. It still was cool. So yeah, that was a quick fun trip, successful trip for High Limit and myself and everybody there. So yeah, and then travel non-stop to get here,” Kyle Larson said.
High Limit Racing headed to Australia for its first international sprint car event in series history. Larson finished fourth and ninth in the first two prelim events in High Limit International.
Kyle Larson opened up about hectic travel to reach Tulsa from Western Australia
Kyle Larson arrived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Tuesday (December 31) to race four divisions at the 2025 Tulsa Shootout. Speaking to FloRacing, Larson reflected on his hectic 24-48 travel schedule as he left Perth at 5 am following the High Limit International spring race to Sydney and then took a direct flight to Tulsa.
“It was really quick. I don't know, the checkered flag was like 10 p.m. probably in Perth, and then my flight was at like 5 in the morning, so stayed up all night in the casino all night. Really, it was only like two hours once we got back to the casino,” Larson told FloRacing.
“And then, yeah, headed to the airport, and Perth to Sydney, and then Sydney to LAX, and then had a tight connection to get on the direct flight here. So yeah then once I got here, straight to the building, ran around, got my pit pass, and ran straight in to get my outlaw car. So yeah, pretty crazy that like 24 hours ago I was in Australia,” the 32-year-old driver added.
Kyle Larson finished fourth in the Non-Wing Outlaw heat race and runner-up in the A Class Winged heat races on Wednesday (Jan 1).
