Kyle Larson has shared his take on 23XI Racing's legal battle against NASCAR. The Hendrick Motorsports driver has termed the legal proceeding as the "biggest story in the sport" in a long time, and as a racing series owner, he too is taking an interest in the situation.
Besides racing in the Cup Series full-time, Larson also owns the High Limit Racing Sprint Car Series, and the Kyle Larson Racing team. It makes sense for him to follow the proceedings even more, as he owns both a racing series and a team.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver spoke to Bob Pockrass at Talladega, ahead of Sunday's Yellawood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. There he was asked if he was following 23XI Racing's stand-off against NASCAR. Replying to this, he said:
"I don't know, it's obviously the biggest story in the sport currently and probably one of the biggest stories in a long time. So we're naturally gonna follow it but I haven't really thought of it from that perspective yet, but yeah I think, as more answers are answered, mean it'll mean more for other stuff too."
According to the latest development, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsport have filed an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR and its chairman Jim France. This has come after the two teams did not comply with NASCAR's latest charter agreement and chose not to sign the deal.
The teams claim that NASCAR has been unfairly running the competition by binding teams to the series, the tracks, and designed suppliers, all chosen by the governing body itself.
Kyle Larson shared his Talladega target
NASCAR is hosting the second race of the Round of 12 at Talladega this Sunday, where Kyle Larson is taking part along with 11 other drivers in Round of 8 contention. While most of the drivers would want to win the race to secure their place in the next round, Larson feels differently.
The #5 driver stated that he would be happy with a top-five finish. Here's what he told Bob Pockrass in detail:
"I would take a fifth. I would take any amount of stage points, and I would take a top 10. And I would take a 10th at Talladega, and I would be happy with that day."
Larson is fourth in the NASCAR standings, 18 points above the playoff cut-line. With his recent victory at Bristol, he looks comfortable for a Round of 8 spot, unless he faces DNFs at both Talladega and Charlotte.
