Danica Patrick has given her two cents on the US Government's decision to aid Ukraine amid their devastated economy because of the latter's war against Russia. The former NASCAR driver drew parallels with the aid sent to Hawaii and opined on focusing on the people of the US.
Patrick's persona in the realm of motorsports has transformed over the decades. After marking her debut karting run at ten, she forayed into Formula Vauxhall and Formula Ford before registering her debut IndyCar run in 2005 for Rahal Letterman Racing. Four years later, in Japan, the Wisconsin native became the only woman to secure an IndyCar 300 race win.
In 2010, her Xfinity Series career took off with Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s JR Motorsports and in 2013, Danica Patrick marked her rookie Cup Series season with Stewart-Haas Racing. After posting seven top-10s from 191 Cup races, she stepped down from the sport with her last race being the 2018 Daytona 500 for Premium Motorsports.
Despite her retirement from stock car racing, Patrick has kept herself glued to motorsports. Since 2019, she has served the role of an NBC analyst for every Indy 500 race and did a stint as an F1 presenter for Sky Sports. Apart from her motorsport ventures, the 42-year-old actively indulges in off-track conversations about several topics.
Amid her recent appearances, Danica Patrick picked her side on the massive billon-dollar aid provided to Ukraine. She said (via Jeppe H. Olesen on X)
"Obviously, the money sent to Ukraine is such a hot topic for people to look at and then look at what you've heard those in Hawaii, receive from fire damage and it's just like appalling difference between the two. It's almost like throwing the flag up in the air and it's like, 'Look here, there's things going on that shouldn't be going on.' But I think that that's very important, I like the idea of focusing on us."
Since Russia's first attack on Ukraine in February 2022, the US Congress has provided $107 billion directly to the Ukrainian government, whereas, over $330 million has been directed towards the Wildfire tragedy that struck Maui, Hawaii.
Danica Patrick feels the controversial boxing verdict in the Paris Olympics was "wrong"
Danica Patrick was unhappy after an unexpected turnaround occurred at the Summer Olympics. Italian boxer Angela Carini withdrew from her boxing match against Algeria's Imane Khelif, 46 seconds after the battle went off. Carini's opponent was previously disqualified from the 2023 boxing championships after failing the gender eligibility test, which raised many eyebrows and controversies.
Even though Patrick has always competed with males in her decades-long motorsports career, she wasn't delighted by the decision that allowed Imane Khelif to box as a female despite having a history of failing the gender eligibility test.
Taking her dismay to Instagram, the IndyCar race winner wrote.
"Wrong. And this is coming from a girl who raced with boys."
After suffering from gut-wrenching pain from the brutal jab from Khelif, Carini withdrew from the match, fell on her knees, and cried, while the Algerian boxer was crowned the winner. However, according to International Boxing Association's President Umar Kremlev, Carini will be awarded the prize money like for an Olympic champion.
