Retired NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace was left astonished after Kyle Busch contained his rage despite succumbing to a second DNF this season. The Richard Childress Racing driver fell victim to the "undrivable" NextGen car as his high-octane ride gave way amid the 350-lap run at Iowa Speedway.

The 0.875-mile short oval welcomed the Cup Series for the first time on its asphalt. Team Penske's Ryan Blaney bagged his maiden win this season, becoming the only Cup winner at the reworked speedway and unlocking the playoff eligibility criteria of bagging a race win.

On the other hand, Kyle Busch eyed to rise from his dismal footing into the season and emerge from his uncertain playoff odds. However, the #8 Chevy suffered a blow during its pursuit. On Lap 134, the RCR driver pitted from 9th place for vibrations in his ride but went back to battle for the lead.

However, setback again knocked on the two-time Cup Series champ's door. On Lap 269, Busch rammed into the wall and immediately pitted to address the issue. But just a lap later, a differential problem slowed down his Chevy and the Nevada native returned to the garage, marking his second DNF in 2024.

Seeing another chance of making his way into the playoffs lost from his grasp, Kyle Busch was enraged. Shortly after the race, the 39-year-old blamed the broken parts of the "NextGen" car for his destroyed outing in Iowa.

"I don't know what happened but NextGen parts and pieces broke, something in the left rear suspension. I don't know if it's a toe link or what it was but it changed the skew of the back of the car and just undrivable," Busch said via NASCAR on NBC on X.

He added:

"Came in to fix it, rolling back out, broke the belt, so I have no idea. Frustrating for sure, not what we wanted."

Kyle Busch is renowned for having a fierce demeanor and has called out the low-powered NextGen cars on several occasions. However, his comparatively cooler attitude during the post-race talk caught Kenny Wallace off-guard.

"This is a shocking change in the great @KyleBusch 😁. The old Kyle would have mother f**ked everyone 😂😂," the astonished driver commented.

A place in the playoffs is slipping away for Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch's current season is yet to see the much-needed win. The two-time Cup Series champion has collected two top-5s and five top-10s so far and has succumbed to two DNFs- the first at the World Wide Technology Raceway and the second at Iowa.

Per NASCAR's rule, a driver has to at least participate in all 26 regular season races and collect one win to become eligible for the playoffs round of 16. Moreover, if more than 16 drivers have won the race, the top 16 from the standings are granted entry into the playoffs.

Busch couldn't rake a win this season and is juggling near the 16th place in the Cup Series standings. He entered the 350-lap race eight points below the elimination line. But after the parts and pieces broke his Iowa run, he stooped to 31 points below the cutoff and is 25 points shy of the immediate leader, Joey Logano.

With that, Kyle Busch doesn't only need a victory, but must also keep his #8 Chevy among the contenders to ensure he does not get sidelined before the playoffs flag off.
