Jimmie Johnson, co-owner of Legacy Motor Club and 2024 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee, shared a video this week from LMC's holiday party. The clip shows Johnson giving a speech at the team's festive celebration, thanking the team for their work so far and looking ahead to the future.
The #84 driver shared the video to his account with the caption:
"Looking back on an incredible holiday party with the team that makes it all happen. Merry Christmas and cheers to an amazing year ahead."
Speaking at the event, Johnson highlighted how far the company has come, and what is next for the organization. He said,
"We’re building something, it’s been a journey, it’s still going to be a journey but I promise you we have great things right ahead of us. We’re going to continue to grow, evolve, and have the success we’re so critically judged by our audience.
“The opportunity we have with our name and to look at the Petty family as a foundational piece, the legacy they’ve created, it’s embodied here. The motor club, the plans to create a lifestyle brand, again we’re just evolving as we're moving into [2025] and there’s going to be a lot of touch points”
Johnson signed on as co-owner and co-founder of Legacy Motor Club when he entered into an ownership agreement with Maury Gallagher at the end of the 2022 season. The organization formerly known as Petty GMS Motorsports changed its name once Johnson came into the ownership fold, and NASCAR legend Richard "The King" Petty moved to the role of Club Ambassador.
Johnson, apart from being an owner, is also a part-time driver for the club, and had nine starts in the 2024 season. Johnson will return to race a partial Cup Series schedule next year as well for his North Carolina based team.
Jimmie Johnson talks about shaking Richard Petty's hand before his big win
Also present at the LMC holiday party was Hall of Famer Richard Petty, who shared a moment with Jimmie Johnson during the festivites. Johnson, who is tied with Petty for number of Cup Series championships won, spoke about the moment before he won his seventh championship in Miami on November 20, 2016.
Speaking to Petty in the video shared on Instagram, Johnson said,
"I’ll never forget the last hand I shook before I rolled off to win my seventh [championship] that night was yours, you told me 'Records are made to be broken' and so, I’ll never forget that."
Jimmie Johnson was running in fourth for a while at the Championship 4 in 2016, before finding success during the final restart of the race. He overtook Joey Logano to clinch his record-making seventh championship win.
