“There’s a class”: Dale Earnhardt Jr. surprised after learning about new tests in order to get contact lenses

Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared that getting contact lenses wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be. He was surprised to learn that there was a class to determine whether he could get contact lenses.

Earnhardt Jr. is a 50-year-old former NASCAR Cup Series driver with 26 victories under his belt. He is married to Amy Reimann, who told him that she didn’t like his glasses because she couldn’t see his eyebrows. This led to Earnhardt Jr. getting contact lenses for the first time.

In the latest episode of his Dale Jr. Download podcast, the former NASCAR driver talked about learning the tedious process of getting contacts.

"I thought you just went and ordered them and they hand them to you [...] There’s a class.”

When the North Carolina native was about to get contact lenses, a representative told him she would schedule him for a class.

“I went in to pick up my contacts, and the lady says, ‘We’re going to schedule you for your class.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay.’ ‘I just don’t shove them in there?’ She’s like, ‘No, no. I’m going to teach you how to do it. Once I feel comfortable that you can get them in and out, you’re good to go,’” Earnhardt Jr. shared.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was surprised that some people don't pass the class. But he hoped he could put lenses in and take them out of his eyes effortlessly.

“Hopefully, I can be a person that can put them in and then take them out without a big issue,” Earnhardt Jr. shared. “She said she’ll give me 40 minutes. If I ain’t got it figured out in 40 minutes, I’m out.”

Co-host Andrew Kurland chimed in and asked whether getting lenses was more difficult than qualifying sessions during Xfinity race weekends. Earnhardt Jr. responded:

“Oh man, qualifying is worse.”

Amy once said she didn’t like Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s favorite sandwich on live TV

Aside from his glasses, Amy Earnhardt was open about not liking Dale’s favorite sandwich on the Dan Patrick Show in 2017. She said on live TV that people should stop making her husband’s favorite sandwich, which was banana and mayonnaise.

Amy joined the show’s Q&A segment to see how much she knew about Dale Earnhardt Jr. since they were newlyweds when it was aired. When she was asked about her husband’s favorite sandwich, she said:

“Oh banana mayonnaise?! Yeah, don’t make that. I don’t like those.” [14:38]

Dale Earnhardt Jr. tried to justify his favorite sandwich by sharing another unique sandwich recipe loved by the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley.

“Elvis ate banana mayo peanut butter… fried. Deep fry the whole sandwich,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “Pound of bacon too. He had a pound of bacon sandwich that he'd deep fry. That’s no joke,” Earnhardt Jr. said. [15:06]
