Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson has expressed his opinion after NASCAR used wet weather tires during Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. NASCAR had an eventful day with the race interrupted by rain for nearly two hours, 15 minutes in the final stage.

When racing resumed following a halt for rain, drivers had to switch to wet weather tires, as mandated by NASCAR. Drivers run the final 80 laps on wet weather tires.

On using wet weather tires at NHMS, Kyle Larson admitted that “there’s a lot to learn” when it comes to racing with these tires under wet conditions. He also praised his #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet team for the strategic efforts to gain track position on the wet tires.

Speaking to Frontstretch after the race, Larson said:

“I think there's a lot to learn from how the tires wore in the, you know, damp to dry conditions, but then also just in the strict dry stuff, which's just still not very good here at New Hampshire. I think we're basically a 7th for like 18th place car.”
“Depending on kind of where we're at, you know, our team did a good job keeping or gaining track position with their strategy and then, yeah, just got to get our car a little bit better.”

When the USA Today 301 was done and dusted, Kyle Larson crossed the finished line at fourth place while Christopher Bell came away with victory, dominating the final 64 of the 305 laps.

Kyle Larson claims “it was fun” racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway under wet conditions

The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion after the race shared his experience racing under damp track in New Hampshire and pointed out how it favored drivers with dirt racing backgrounds. Larson admitted that he had a fun race and was happy with his decision to go extremely low during the restart, which really worked for him.

“Yeah, it was fun. I think when it’s like that, I think that is why you see a lot of the dirt racers kind of migrate to the front. Just tried to feel it out under caution. It’s not my best bet on the restart to go extremely low, but it worked out and I was able to maintain track position the rest of the race, so I am proud of that,” Larson said, as quoted by NBC Sports.

With P4 results, Kyle Larson moved into a tie with teammate Chase Elliott in the Cup Series points table with 620 points and three wins.
