Front Row Motorsports driver Todd Gilliland recently took a cheeky dig at Boston Celtics fans with a social media story. The FRM star was present at the Celtics' match against Oklahoma City Thunder, and this was when he took to his official Instagram account to take the dig.
Boston Celtics recently squared off against Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday where the Celtics lost to Thunder by a 105-92 margin. Gilliland was present to witness the match, and as the match ended, he wasted no time in taking a dig at Celtics fans.
He shared a photo of himself on his official Instagram account as a story on Monday, writing:
"Sorry Celtic fans, they couldn't handle me by the bench tonight. Better luck next time."
Here's a screengrab of Gilliland's story:
Gilliland is currently enjoying his time away from NASCAR after he was done with the 2024 Cup Series season. He completed his full-time season with Front Row Motorsports this year, where he raced alongside Michael McDowell.
The Statesville-born driver finished the season in 22nd place with 630 points after 36 races, where he claimed four Top 10s, and led 130 laps. His average start position was 22.111 and the average finish position was 20.861.
Todd Gilliland will continue to race with Front Row Motorsports in 2025 but with an internal change to the team. He will no longer drive the #38 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, which he did this year. Instead, he will take over the charge of #34 car, vacated by McDowell.
Front Row Motorsport brought in Zane Smith to replace Todd Gilliland within the team
After federal judge Kenneth D Bell ruled in favor of 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports to give them an injunction for the 2025 Cup Series season, FRM used the opportunity to rope in Zane Smith for next year. They brought in Smith and put him in charge of the #38 car, earlier driven by Gilliland.
Renowned NASCAR influencer Eric Estepp touched upon this and stated that he found it odd as it did not make any sense for him to see Gilliland leave his designated car, and crew chief to go into a new one ahead of the season. Speaking about this, Estepp said in his YouTube video,
"[Zane Smith] He will drive the number 38 Ford. It appears Ryan Bergenty, who was Todd Gilliland's crew chief on the number 38 last year, will stay on the 38 to work with Zane Smith. It's a little odd to me that if the team was always planning on keeping the 38 branding, why not leave Todd Gilliland in the 38? He and Ryan Bergenty worked really well in 2024."
"Why not keep that relationship together? Wouldn't it make more sense to move Zane Smith to the 34? Team him up with Chris Lawson? They won a truck series championship just two years together. Just thoughts off the top of these combos seem a little strange to me. What do I know?"
As Front Row Motorsports was allowed to have three charters, they brought in two new drivers, Zane Smith and Noah Gragson for the next season. While they put Gragson in the new charter, Smith was put in charge of the #38 car after McDowell moved to Spire Motorsports for 2025.
