Seven years ago, NASCAR Cup Series drivers Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney contemplated racing a T. rex, which was believed to catch up to a car easily.
Elliott and Blaney are sons of former NASCAR drivers and have known each other since childhood. They grew up around race tracks in the 1990s. During a 2017 episode of the Glass Case of Emotion Podcast, the two drivers discussed if they would race a T. rex and what the popular Jurassic Park series got wrong.
"I don't think T-Rexes can race because what are they going to do if they lose their balance? They can't catch themselves... I think it's hilarious. I would like to see two T-Rexes race each other. Could you imagine how terrifying a T-Rex would be with, like, normal-sized arms? Holy, that thing would be so terrifying," Blaney said. [0:21 onwards]
They also discussed riding herbivore dinosaurs of the Jurassic period like the long-necked Barosaurus and Stegosaurus. After finding out that the T. rex walked slower, at around 5 miles per hour than shown in the iconic car chase scene in the first Jurrasic Park movie, Elliott said:
"They gonna have to remake all the Jurassic Park movies from day one."
According to more recent research, the T. rex might have walked at just 3 mph, much slower than original estimates of around 30-40 mph.
Chase Elliott is the son of 1988 Winston Cup Series champion Bill Elliott while Blaney is a third-generation racer. His dad is Dave Blaney and his grandfather is dirt track racer Lou Blaney.
Chase Elliott used to tease Ryan Blaney over vacation invites
Hendrick Motorsports's Chase Elliott talked about not being invited to trips to Hawaii and Disney World with Ryan Blaney and Bubba Wallace. In a 2019 interview on NBC Sports, Elliott joked that he was left out. He also mentioned inviting Blaney to a concert but said Blaney did not follow through.
"I built a bridge, I got over it," Elliott said (4:36).
Blaney later responded and made it clear that Elliott is always invited and usually chooses not to join.
"He's [Chase Elliott] always invited, he just never wants to come. And then he likes to go to the media and say that we didn't invite him and didn't tell him. He always denies us, denies wanting to come for some reason. I don't know why," Blaney said (01:07).
Meanwhile, the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion recently got married to Gianna Tulio in Aspen, Colorado. The couple had been together for over four years. Elliott and Wallace also attended the festivities.
