Retired NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. reflected on two fond moments from his wedding with his wife, Amy, on the most recent episode of the Dale Jr. Download.
During the "Ask Jr." portion of the show, the 15-time Most Popular Driver of NASCAR said there were two moments from his 2016 wedding captured on camera that are in his house today. Earnhardt Jr. said:
"One is us kissing on the stage when it's the 'You may kiss the bride' moment. We have that. Then, I have this other picture from our reception or our party afterwards, where me and Amy are together. Our person took those pictures and I'm so thankful for those because they're two of my favorites." [from 05:51 onward]
The conversation stemmed from a Facebook question for the show asking the two-time Daytona 500 winner what piece of advice he could give a couple that was getting married soon.
Earnhardt Jr. recalls a lot of anxiety comes into play when thinking about what the next step is, such as taking pictures or something else. The owner of Jr. Motorsports warns those to live in the moment on what's supposed to be a special day.
"It's impossible to live in the moment because you're so anticipating the wedding itself and the moment you're up on that stage in front of everybody," Earnhardt Jr. said. "Let it be slow. Let the day chill. Everything's going to be fine, everything's going to go great. There'll be some hiccups, something's not going to happen the way it's supposed to. That's OK."
Regarding wedding pictures and videos, the former NASCAR on NBC color commentator and soon-to-be Amazon/TNT NASCAR broadcaster in 2025 said not to rush through that as it's an important part of the day, even if you don't realize it in the moment. Whether it's 10 or 40 years from now, he believes you'll appreciate taking the time to snap quality photos.
A father of two young daughters, Earnhardt Jr. added that it's especially true if you're going to be a parent. The dad of two said when his girls see the pictures of their mom and dad getting married, they catch a glimpse of their love and compassion.
"They look at those pictures and go, 'There's mommy and daddy on your wedding day'," Earnhardt Jr. said. "They look at them and they're important pictures to them and they're only tiny kids. They look at those pictures and it raises our profile as parents when they see that picture on the nightstand or in the living room."
