Following Joe Gibbs Racing's recent engine issues, Martin Truex Jr. commented on the situation. The veteran driver expressed his confidence in Toyota Racing Development to sort out the issues as the playoffs approach.

Christopher Bell's valve spring failure at Gateway marked the beginning of a troubling series of engine failures for JGR. Denny Hamlin's engine detonated at Sonoma Raceway, covering the car in smoke. More recently, Ty Gibbs was struck with an engine failure at Pocono Raceway.

Martin Truex Jr. addressed the recent engine failure at Pocono, admitting he was uncertain about the root cause. The veteran JGR driver also revealed that Toyota Racing Development does not share detailed information about the analysis with the team.

Expressing his trust in Toyota, the #19 Joe Gibbs Racing driver told Frontstretch.com:

"They don't really ever tell us exactly, I mean I know what happened to his engine, but we don't really know why. So that's kinda like a wait-and-see thing. But TRD does a really great job, I don't really have any concerns its pushing the envelopes or engines. It's running really good and you'll never know when a little issue will pop up." [from 13:10]

Christopher Bell, whose engine failure took him out of contention for the race win at Gateway, reflected on the "heartbreaking" episode. The #20 Joe Gibbs Racing driver also expressed his trust in the world-class engineers at TRD. He said:

"Yeah, going back to my engine failure at Gateway, that was heartbreaking and then to see the #11 at Sonoma and then Ty last week, it's a little alarming, but we've got the best engine builders in the world at TRD. I know they'll get it figured out," [from 2:27]

It will be crucial for TRD to resolve these engine issues before the playoffs begin. A failure in the final 10 races could spell disaster for the championship hopes of the Toyota Camry drivers.

Frustrated Martin Truex Jr. disappointed with Toyota Camry's speed

During the NASCAR Cup race at Pocono Raceway, Martin Truex Jr. vented out his frustration on the Camry's speed deficit on the long straights, comparing the car to a "turtle".

Truex Jr. led 14 laps during the race to win the first stage but fell down the order to finish P8 at the checkered flag. Stephen Stumpf quoted the #19 Toyota driver's radio comments from the race:

“This thing is so f*cking slow on the straightaway. Junk. F*cking junk.”

After his crew chief queried if there was any issue with the car, Truex Jr. replied that it was the inherent pace.

“No, it's just a f*cking turtle!” he replied

It is unclear if it was an engine issue or higher drag that hampered Martin Truex Jr's outing at Pocono. The long straights at the Indianapolis Oval will paint a better picture of Toyota's speed on the straights. The Brickyard 400 is scheduled for this Sunday, July 21, at 2:30 PM ET.
