Tony Stewart once crashed Carl Edwards’ live interview for the NASCAR on FOX broadcast team. Stewart came in on a golf cart and had a friendly banter with Edwards, saying fun statements like he was chasing his old rival.

Stewart and Edwards are former NASCAR Cup Series drivers who retired in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Perhaps the height of their competition was in 2011 when the two finished with the same points at 2,403. However, Stewart took the championship title as he amassed more wins than Edwards in the season (five to one).

Carl Edwards was talking about the good strategies his crew chief Darian Grubb called when Stewart arrived at the scene. The interviewer then asked the unexpected guest how he was doing.

“Think we’re overcast, think we’re chasing you,” Stewart said.

The three-time Cup Series champ quickly changed the topic and complimented Edwards’ looks.

“You look really good back. Your hair looks nice.”

The interviewer complimented his guest back, saying:

“Thank you, buddy. The Wiley Xs… I like them too.”

The now 53-year-old driver ended his interview by giving insights on the race before leaving on a golf cart.

“I start on the backstretch, like I’m starting 31st. So when you go across the start-finish line, I’m probably going to be about in turn three when you drop the green.”

While the post didn’t indicate the interview date, one can expect this was recorded at the penultimate race of the 2015 NASCAR Cup Series season in November. The mountainous scenery and Tony Stewart starting in 31st suggest the unplanned interview happened at Phoenix Raceway.

The race witnessed Stewart finishing 27th in the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet SS. As for Edwards, the Missouri native finished in 12th after starting 4th in the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry.

Fast forward to today, Stewart is leaving the NASCAR Cup Series in light of the imminent exit of the Stewart-Haas Racing team at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Carl Edwards will be driving at Kansas Speedway this weekend as the honorary pace car driver.

Tony Stewart subs for his wife at NHRA while she focuses on family

Tony Stewart may be out of the NASCAR grid next year but continues to compete on track. This time, the Indiana native is racing at NHRA as a replacement driver for his wife, Leah Pruett, as the couple are expecting their first child in November.

In a statement released last year, Stewart showed his support for his wife and said:

“I am very proud of my wife. To make a decision like this has got to be extremely hard. I don’t think from a male’s perspective that we can fully grasp it. To be a competitive, professional race car driver and have to make the decision to take yourself out of the seat to start a family is not a position most males would want to be put in.”

In his rookie season, Tony Stewart has secured a spot in the postseason driving the 11,000-horsepower TSR Dodge//SRT Direct Connection Top Fuel Dragster.
