Bubba Wallace's spotter Freddie Kraft feels that the upcoming race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is extremely important to win the championship. He claimed that winning this race would give the driver more time to prepare for the finale at Phoenix.
The 2024 NASCAR season is drawing to a close with just four races remaining in the schedule. This has been quite a thrilling season so far and heading towards Las Vegas, there is not a very large gap between the contenders for the championship. While Kyle Larson currently holds a ten-point lead over Christopher Bell in second place, the rest of the drivers are separated by very small gaps.
This can prove to be quite tricky as the drivers will have to put maximum focus on the remaining races to not fall out of contention at the end of the Round of 8. However, Bubba Wallace's spotter Freddie Kraft has a solution to navigate this challenge. Discussing the upcoming race on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, he mentioned that winning at Vegas will give the driver the opportunity to prepare better for the final race. He also stated that this is the third most important race after the Daytona 500 and the Championship race.
"This race this weekend, we've said it on here before is maybe the third most important race of the season. Daytona 500 is always going to be the most important to me, the championship race, and then Vegas because like you said, if you win Vegas, you can spend the next three weeks, simming, doing everything you can for Phoenix versus having to worry about any other race in this round," he said.
Bubba Wallace feels it's a "waste of time" to invest too much into political discussions
Wallace, who failed to qualify for the playoffs, found himself in the spotlight earlier this week when he refused to discuss his political views openly, a stark contrast to his approach in 2020. Four years ago, he was quite vocal and downplayed former president Donald Trump. However, he has chosen to remain silent this year.
When Wallace was asked about his views on the upcoming presidential elections, he seemingly diverted the question. He left a remark, encouraging people to eat from McDonald's, indirectly promoting his primary sponsor.
"Go to McDonald's, Buy a meal, get the 10-piece chicken nugget, fries, Dr. Pepper, and then round up that money, all of that money goes to [Ronald McDonald House Charities]," he said.
The 23XI Racing driver then explained that he feels it is a "waste of time" to indulge in political discussions, further stating that his beliefs still stand strong.
"Investing my time into that seems like a waste of time. I was definitely more vocal then because our sport was in desperate need of change," Wallace said.
"My beliefs stand strong in just being good humans to other people is the best way to go about life. No matter what side you're on, no matter what color you are, at the end of the day we're in this world together and we have to make it work together. And I think I've said that from day one and that hasn't changed and nor will it change," he added.
Although Wallace maintained a consistent performance throughout the 2024 season, the absence of a race win prevented him from qualifying for the playoffs. Despite being on the verge of securing a top-16 position based on points, a series of races midway through the season hindered his chances.
