NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Sage Karam hoped for rain to not ruin the Grant Park events in the years to come. The 29-year-old said that the Cup Series race on the venue was "the best event on the calendar."
Sage Karam has previously competed part-time and full-time in the IndyCar Series. The Pennsylvania native has been a champion in what is now known as the Indy NXT Series (2013).
Besides driving the #26 Sam Hunt Racing machine in the Xfinity Series, Karam is on a part-time schedule as the driver of the number 32 Chevy for Jordan Anderson Racing, and the number 35 Toyota for Joey Gase Motorsports.
The 29-year-old speedster was not happy about the fact that rain had plagued the Cup Series road race twice in a row. Hoping that it doesn't happen again and urging NASCAR to add more races to its schedule, Karam wrote,
"2 years in a row. Hopefully rain doesn’t ruin this event going forward. This is the best event on the calendar. NASCAR needs more street courses this racing is incredible."
Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman snapped an 80-race winless streak and won the rain-shortened race in Chicago on Sunday. The #48 driver held off sports car icon Joey Hand, and fellow NASCAR driver Tyler Reddick en route to the 8th win of his Cup career.
On the other hand, Sage Karam made his 30th career Xfinity start and fifth of the year the previous day, but unfortunately couldn't finish the 50-lap event. To this day, Karam's most impressive run in a NASCAR road course race was last year's P4 finish at Road America, which was also his Sam Hunt Racing debut.
Sage Karam responds to fans bashing him for Grant Park 165 comments
Although Sage Karam gave his views on Grant Park 165, they did not resonate well with the fans. Some of them even bashed Karam for getting involved in a wreck during Saturday's practice, which led him to resort to a backup Colture Sports GR Supra. Another commented on his post suggesting that Karam complained a lot.
"Dude, you complain a lot for not being overly competitive in any series. Best of luck to you going forward," the fan wrote.
Another fan said,
"Why? You obviously didn't do well yesterday."
Several others disagreed with Sage Karam's opinion on the Chicago being the best road course race on NASCAR's roster. One such fan wrote,
"This is far far from the best event on the calendar. It’s amongst the worst"
To which Karam replied,
"My opinion. You’re entitled to yours."
An unfazed Karam responded to the comments all at once with another post saying:
"I forgot I can’t have an opinion on social media without getting bashed. Oh well still my favorite race on the schedule."
Sam Hunt Racing is yet to announce the remainder of Sage Karam's 2024 schedule. His 2024 journey started on February 17 at Daytona International Speedway with CRC Brakleen as his primary sponsor.
