Corey LaJoie went on a wild ride at Michigan International Speedway after his #7 Chevy went airborne on the backstretch. LaJoie's car landed upside down and continued to slide before completing another flip and landing on its wheels on the grass.

Following Kyle Sieg's flip in the Xfinity race earlier in the weekend, LaJoie became the second driver to endure a flip-over at the two-mile oval. The incident occurred in the final stage of the rain-delayed race, which was postponed to Monday.

Corey LaJoie was racing Noah Gragson when he pulled down the inside to overtake the #10 Ford driver. The #7 Chevy slid sideways and was lifted by the aerodynamic forces, landing on its roof and continuing to slide across the backstretch before coming to rest on its wheel on the grass. LaJoie was evaluated and released from the infield care center.

The relative ease with which NASCAR's next-gen car went airborne has raised concerns about driver safety, with many pointing fingers at the next-gen car's poor design. One X user suggested that the next-gen car was disappointing in every aspect:

"Just a reminder that this car sucks in all areas"

Another X user remarked that it was alarming to watch the car flip over at such a quick rate.

"That’s alarming how quickly that left the ground. 2 flips this weekend now" the comment read.

A third X user was thankful the Spire Motorsports driver was not injured by the wreck and criticized the gen-7 car.

"Trash gen 7. Glad lajoie is okay.. I just hope nascar doesn’t come back with low horsepower now" the comment read.

Here are a few other remarks on Corey LaJoie's scary crash:

"The car has something. Weather it’s the underbody or the flares that when it’s that angle just like the 41 last year" one X user pondered.
"Bro not even the COT got pushed up by air this fast. This is bizarre." another X user wrote.
"I was told by all the experts on Twitter that the grass was the problem" an X user wrote about the car flipping on the track.

Corey LaJoie addresses media after scary crash at Michigan

Exiting the infield care center, Corey LaJoie reflected on his flip-over and how he escaped unscathed from the scary wreck. LaJoie was baffled as to why his #7 Chevy flipped over so quickly and wondered if the headwind also had a part to play.

Speaking to Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass, LaJoie said:

"I'm not an engineer Bob, I don't know and looking at the flag that was into a headwind too, so maybe that. The liftoff speed I think is like 210mph with these cars and you add a 15-20mph wind too. I don't like to get upside down, I have done it twice this year and it's not fun" he said.

Corey LaJoie was involved in a similar incident at Talladega, where his #7 Chevy flipped on the final lap, as he rode the outside wall sideways coming to the checkered flag. The recent incident at Michigan ended his outing and he was classified 32nd overall.
