Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks announced last Friday that he will part ways with partner Ty Norris in the team's fourth year of running in the NASCAR Cup Series. During a recent interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Marks mentioned how important Norris had been to the Chevy team since its inception in 2021.
The 59-year-old Sumter native has been involved in the growth and development of several teams like Dale Earnhardt Inc., Speedway Motorsports Inc., Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR), Spire Sports, and Trackhouse Racing.
According to Marks, Norris is one of the best race team builders in the industry.
"This guy, I think, is really one of the best, if not the best in our sport's history at building race teams," Marks told SiriusXM. "He helped build DEI (Dale Earnhardt Inc.), he helped build MWR (Michael Waltrip Racing), he helped build Trackhouse ...he's got such a knack for it and such a talent for it...helping these teams get organized and moving in the right direction and get built up." Kaulig Racing took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that Ty Norris will join them as their Chief Business Officer. He will also assist team owner Matt Kaulig and team president Chris Rice with partnerships and long-term strategies. The statement read:
"Norris will serve as the team's Chief Business Officer, focusing on partnerships and long-term strategy alongside owner Matt Kaulig and team President Chris Rice."
"Bringing Norris and his wealth of knowledge to the executive team is one of several major moves Kaulig and Rice are making to solidify the trajectory of its NASCAR Cup Series program well into the future," they added.
Ty Norris' role at Trackhouse Racing since the team purchased Chip Ganassi Racing's operations on June 30, 2021, has been pivotal to their growth.
Trackhouse Racing to stay "connected" with Kaulig Racing
Kaulig Racing was founded in 2016 by Matt Kaulig, Executive Chairman of the Kaulig Companies Limited. The team made its debut in the 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series PowerShares QQQ 300 at Daytona International Speedway.
The North Carolina-based outfit competed in the Cup Series for the first time at the 2020 Daytona 500. Two years later, Kaulig Racing expanded to a full-time, two-car team in the Cup Series.
"He's (Norris) going to do some great things over at Kaulig (Racing). We're still working together," Justin Marks said in the same interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. "Obviously, Trackhouse has a great partnership with Kaulig. Our pit crews go there and work with them, and we have SVG (Shane van Gisbergen) over there and all that stuff. So we are very connected." Shane van Gisbergen, who made his debut last year under Trackhouse Racing's PROJECT91 program, is currently on a full-time Xfinity schedule with Kaulig Racing. He will make his move to full-time Cup racing with Trackhouse Racing in 2025.
